Icelandair to expand route network and frequency in 2013

New destination in 2013: Anchorage, Alaska. Glasgow service will increase to four times per week, while London Gatwick service will increase to three times per week.

Icelandair will expand its route network in 2013 with service to Anchorage, Alaska. The company will also increase frequency from two of its UK gateways, Glasgow and London Gatwick.

There will be two flights per week to Anchorage from 15th May to 15th September (Wednesdays and Sundays outbound, Mondays and Thursdays inbound). The strength of the company’s hub and spoke network will be utilised by adding this destination.  As a result, passengers travelling between the UK and Alaska will be offered a much shorter and economical way to travel.

Susan Bell, commissioner of the Alaska Department of Commerce, Community & Economic Development said, “Alaska has long been an inspirational holiday destination for travellers from around the world. Alaska offers incredible wildlife viewing, vast unspoiled wilderness, mountainous grandeur, wonderful urban areas and a sophisticated tourism infrastructure. We believe Icelandair’s new route to Alaska will be hugely successful, and will continue to underscore our role as a premier destination as well as to help us grow in the UK market.”

In addition to adding Anchorage as a destination, Icelandair’s frequency from both Glasgow and London Gatwick will increase in 2013. Starting 15th March Glasgow service will be increased to four times per week (Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays) with the addition of a Friday flight. And Icelandair’s newest UK gateway, London Gatwick, will increase service starting 21st May to three times per week (Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays) with the addition of a Thursday flight.

Hjorvar Saeberg Hognasson, Icelandair’s General Manager – UK & Ireland added, “We are thrilled about our newest destination Alaska and are pleased to be able to offer our UK customers even more frequency in 2013. This increased frequency makes it easier to travel to not only Iceland but all of our destinations in North America.”

Icelandair is one of Iceland’s longest established companies and this year is celebrating 75 years of aviation. Icelandair flies from four UK gateways (London Heathrow, London Gatwick, Manchester and Glasgow) to Iceland with connecting service to Boston, Denver, Minneapolis/St. Paul, New York City, Orlando, Seattle, Washington, DC, Halifax and Toronto.
