The duration of the appeal process remains uncertain, as court ruling appeals frequently extend over several months or more. JetBlue is confronted with a July deadline to finalize the merger.

JetBlue Airways Corporation and Spirit Airlines, Inc. reported that they have jointly filed a notice of appeal to the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit, consistent with the requirements of the merger agreement. This comes after U.S. District Judge William Young‘s decision in Boston last Tuesday, which aligned with the U.S. Department of Justice’s stance that JetBlue’s proposed $3.8 billion purchase of budget airline Spirit could lead to reduced competition and negatively impact consumers, both airlines have initiated an appeal process.
