Record-breaking May 2023 at Katowice Airport

Most often, travellers flew from Katowice Airport on charter flights to Antalya, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Rhodes and Heraklion.

The Upper Silesian Aviation Group (GTL SA) – the company managing Katowice Wojciech Korfanty International Airport in Pyrzowice, Poland – has summarised passenger traffic for the fifth month of 2023.

In May 2023, 471,444 passengers were handled on regular and charter flights at Katowice Wojciech Korfanty Airport; resultantly, the airport has considerably surpassed the record-breaking result from May 2019, when 429,315 passengers were served. 253,893 passengers travelled on regular flights offered by Wizz Air, Ryanair, LOT Polish Airlines and Air Dolomiti (Lufthansa). In May 2023, passengers most often flew on regular flights connecting Katowice Airport and Dortmund, London-Luton, London-Stansted, Frankfurt and Eindhoven. 216,462 passengers were handled on charter flights on behalf of travel agencies. Most often, travellers flew from Katowice Airport on charter flights to Antalya, Hurghada, Marsa Alam, Rhodes and Heraklion. In May 2023, 3,928 aircraft operations were noted at Katowice Airport.

From January to the end of May 2023, 1 586 973 passengers were served, the most during the first five months of the year in the history of the airport. The previous best result was achieved in 2019, when 1,444,484 passengers flew via the Katowice Airport network.

“Passenger traffic at Katowice Airport grows in accordance with the positive variant of the forecast for 2023. We currently estimate that approximately 5.3 million passengers will travel via the Katowice Airport network in 2023; resultantly, we will improve on the current record from 2019 by over 400 thousand passengers,” said Artur Tomasik, the President of the Board of GTL SA.
