Royal Brunei adopts Amadeus’ complete next-generation IT portfolio

Amadeus, a leading transaction processor and provider of advanced technology solutions for the global travel and tourism industry and Royal Brunei Airlines, the national carrier of Brunei, announced a new contract to implement the Amadeus Altea Customer Management Solution and e-Retail Internet booking engine.

The contract was celebrated at an event in Brunei officiated by the Guest of Honour, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Dato Paduka Awang Haji Abdullah bin Begawan Mudim Dato Paduka Haji Bakar, Minister of Communications.

As part of its new commercial strategy, Royal Brunei will replace its existing passenger service system with the Amadeus Altea suite, which will help revolutionise business processes across the airline’s global reservations, inventory management and airport departure control operations.

The Altea suite will provide Royal Brunei with next-generation technology to enable it to be competitive, both in the region and globally, and will equip the airline with the tools needed to improve business efficiency and performance, including reducing waiting times at airports, improving customer service and enabling the airline to generate additional revenue streams.

Mr. Dermot Mannion, Deputy Chairman of Royal Brunei Airlines said, “The Amadeus Altea suite is an important part of the turn-around programme for Royal Brunei Airlines and will enable us to modernise our processes, improve efficiency, and reduce costs while improving customer service and satisfaction. Using the latest technology is critical for Royal Brunei Airlines’ on-going success as we continue to operate in diverse market segments, including long and short haul routes, in an increasingly competitive market.”

Additionally, Royal Brunei has already implemented the Amadeus e-Retail internet booking engine and Amadeus e-Merchandise low fare calendar shopping solution to power online sales through its website with an enhanced online consumer experience. The airline also plans to implement additional car rental and hotel content to its website in 2012.

John Chapman, Vice President, Airline Group, Amadeus Asia Pacific said that Amadeus is delighted to be selected as Royal Brunei’s IT partner.

“We welcome Royal Brunei to the growing number of Asia Pacific airlines selecting Amadeus IT solutions and look forward to being a part of their success in the future. Our solutions will ensure that Royal Brunei passengers enjoy a seamless travel experience with faster check-in processes, enhanced booking capabilities and greater levels of automation within the airline.”

There are 115 airlines contracted for Amadeus Altea, with 95 already migrated. During the first nine months of 2011, the Amadeus’ Altea system processed 327.5 million passengers, a 21% increase over the same period a year ago. Royal Brunei is expected to migrate to the Altea suite by mid-2012.
