Essential things for your family outing: The ultimate checklist

Part of the fun of camping is that you only need a few items to survive. But, it’s also good to have a campsite that’s comfy, handy, and homely. If this is your first time camping, you may want to borrow or rent some of these items.

Outdoor activities such as camping and hiking are much more fun with your family when you are prepared. But, you don’t want to go out into the wilderness empty-handed, right?

Some campsites feature a picnic table, a parking area, and a space to pitch your tent. Many have communal bathrooms as well as running water.

Part of the fun of camping is that you only need a few items to survive. But, it’s also good to have a campsite that’s comfy, handy, and homely. If this is your first time camping, you may want to borrow or rent some of these items. As you gain more camping_experience, you may discover that part of the pleasure is figuring out what to pack to fit your needs.

1. Tent
After a day of trekking and exploring your environment , you'll like a decent, waterproof, comfy place to sleep. This implies that the most important item you'll need for camping is a nice tent. Unless, of course, you have an RV, or staying in a cabin then you are all set.

2. Sleeping bag or air mattress
Next on the list of necessary goods is clearly what you sleep in, which is crucial for having a really good night's rest, right? You would like something comfortable, something that will keep you warm but not overheat you, and something that is not too heavy or clunky. An Air Mattress is a great place to lay down during the summer nights to keep you cool. If you want something a little bit cozy and warm, a sleeping bag would be perfect for you.

3. Light source
Light at your campsite becomes an essential element of your camping experience depending on the time of year you are camping and when you return to camp in the evening.

There are several reasons why you should have a lantern around your camp, so make sure you get the correct ones for your camping setup. If you want to read a book or play a game with your friends, having a nice light is essential. If you're having a snack or eating dinner later in the evening, you'll also need a bright light. Do you have a family and may require more than one in case the children behave differently than the parents? Or a bunch of couples on a trip? Whatever your scenario is, you will require a light source.

4. Sunscreen
Don't let yourself be burnt. Your skin needs protection too! Have you experienced sunburn? It's not pleasant I would say. If you are not from Australia, you will notice that the sun is quite hot. Even if you are, you should bear in mind that you will most likely be spending a lot more time outside than usual. So layer that sunscreen up and take care of your precious skin.
5. First aid kit
You never know when someone could injure themselves outside of the woods. And let us not forget that there are critters in nature, so we should definitely be prepared for some bites. You may also use your kit to transport medications such as aspirin and ibuprofen.

Do yourself a favor and go over our suggestions before packing your first aid bag for another camping trip. Here are some thing you should include in your first aid kit:

  • Types of bandages
  • Disinfectant
  • Bug spray
  • Gauze pads
  • Latex gloves
  • Meds
  • Tweezers
  • Medical tape

6. Pocket knife
A Swiss Army knife or a pocket knife is an excellent option for your camping gear. A fold out blade, a screwdriver, a can opener, and a pair of foldout scissors are among the equipment included. Food preparation, cutting kindling or a bandage, and opening anything are only a few of the uses for each of these components.

7. Extra clothing
Undoubtedly, you'll carry clothes for each day you're gone, but what we're suggesting with this one is to bring extra layers for different times of day. After an exhausting day  trekking through the trail might bust you off a sweat and clearly, you don’t want to sleep on those nasty shirts. If the night was cold you could bring out a jacket to keep you warm and cozy.

Wrap it up
Camping out with your family and friends is a great way to spend the weekend and bond together. But it is more enjoyable when you are prepared and have nothing to worry about.
