Five things you must see in Canada

Experience the vacation of a lifetime when you next travel up north by reading our list of the top five must-see spots in Canada that everyone should visit.

People have a misconception about Canada that most of the country is cold, snowy, and barren.

While there are parts of Canada that do get very cold in the winter, most of the country is pleasant during the summer, fall, and spring months. There are also many famous Canadian buildings and landmarks that you must see if you ever happen to visit our northern neighbors.

Between the poutine, friendly people, and charming locales, there is so much to love about Canada.

Below is a guide that runs down the top five must-see spots that everyone should visit if they are vacationing in Canada in the coming months.

1. Columbia icefields
A trip to Canada would not be fulfilling unless you get to see the Rocky Mountains up close and personal. The Columbia Icefield is the largest icefield in the Rockies, stretching along the Continental Divide that is present along the British Columbia and Alberta borders.

The ice field is around 125 square miles in area, getting up to 300 inches of snowfall every year. If you time your vacation, you can visit during a period when there are guided tours happening of the icefields. Such a tour allows you to get into a rugged vehicle and explore the area for all its natural and often harrowing beauty.

2. Vancouver Lookout
The Vancouver Lookout is situated at the very top of one of the tallest buildings in the city, the Harbour Centre. When you are up there, you can get a true 360-degree view of the entire city. What better way is there to see one of the most charming cities in North America?

The lookout is close to the waterfront and the downtown area. You can walk in either direction, whether you want to see the ocean or you prefer to check out the business district and shopping hotspots. The nearby Chinatown district is also worth a visit.

3. Downtown Calgary
Downtown Calgary, located in the province of Alberta, is one of the hippest and most exciting parts of Canada you can visit. Even people who have been to parts of the world such as Paris and Amsterdam often rave about Calgary, which is why you may want to see what all the fuss is about!

Calgary Tower should be the first stop on your itinerary for the downtown area. You can go all the way to the top, where you can get a 360-degree view of the entire city, which stretches to the Canadian Rockies. Then you can get back down and go along Stephen Avenue, where you will come across plenty of wonderful restaurants, stores, ice cream trucks, local art displays, and other charming attractions.

4. Old Port in Montreal
A historic part of Montreal, which is one of the most famous and pleasing cities to visit in Canada, the Old Port is a must-see experience for tourists. The historic part of Montreal, Old Port, stretches for more than a mile along the St. Lawrence River.

The port was first set up in 1611 when it was used by fur traders as a spot to barter. While port activities are now situated in another part of the city, the Old Port is still as lively as ever. There are charming parks, roller-blading spots, urban beaches, a science center with a massive IMAX theater, and plenty of great restaurants, bars, and cafes.

5. Niagara Falls
A visit to Canada would not be the same without checking out Niagara Falls. A landmark that is surprisingly close to the United States border, which attracts tourists from around the world every year.

Niagara Falls State Park is open every day of the year, features awe-inspiring scenery, and is home to one of the largest waterfalls on the planet. Experiencing these waterfalls must be done in person, as no footage can do them justice. Only when you are up close and personal with the water rushing through at immense speeds, do you appreciate this famous landmark.

You can have a lot of fun in this general area. The state park is home to activities such as the Cave of the Winds Tour, which lets you get close to the Falls. There is also an aquarium, and there are hiking trails that the whole family can enjoy together. You will find plenty of great dining spots as well.
