Four travel tips from experienced flyers

Here are a few tips that people who fly a lot know that may help morenovice travellers

People who routinely fly for business trips and travel know a thing or two about how to make each flight a smooth experience. For others, flying is a rare and potentially stressful occurrence given the security lines, crowds to navigate, and the cost of a ticket.

Here are a few tips that people who fly a lot know that may help more novice travellers.

Inexpensive airport parking
The flight itself is almost as fast as magic, but getting to and from the airport is traditionally one of the biggest hassles of flying. Now, platforms like One Stop Parking let you take your own car to the airport and park at a neighbouring hotel, so you get all the same convenience for a much lower price.

You don’t need to be staying overnight at the hotel. Just reserve your spot, and the free shuttle will take you and your luggage to the terminal. This approach is available at more than 75 airports in North America and more than 180 locations worldwide.

Save as much as $200 per trip, and get to the airport in your own private vehicle for less than you’d spend to take an Uber both ways.

Dress smartly
Do everything in your power to be as comfortable as possible, which means wearing the right clothes. Don’t wear anything too restrictive or confining. You want clothes that breathe well and won’t keep you too hot or cold during the flight.

Some clothing providers make lines of clothing for commuters. Such garments are designed to look smart but perform well — you can wear them to a nice restaurant or out on the town, but they’ll stretch, won’t absorb too much sweat, and won’t wrinkle.

You want to feel as comfortable as you would be while sitting on your couch at home, without necessarily looking like you’re dressed to binge-watch TV.

Pack appropriately
What are you bringing with you, and where are you packing it? If you are traveling light and aren’t carrying any prohibited items on the plane itself, you may decide to only travel with carry-on luggage to skip the baggage carousel and the expense of checking in your bags.

Bring your favourite snack or even a meal, if it’s a long flight. Choose a dish that isn’t very messy, perhaps a sandwich or some other no-fuss food that won’t make the person seated next to you roll their eyes.

Entertain yourself
There will be in-flight entertainment, but nobody knows what you like better than you do. Flying can give you some time away from distractions so that you can read your favourite book for hours.

Or maybe you want distractions on your phone, like your favourite music, movies or shows. Decide for yourself and take matters into your own hands.

If you need to fly now, be sure to follow all the health recommendations that experts advise in your region and where you’re flying to. Keep the above tips in mind, and your next trip will be smoother for sure.
