How to stay relaxed while travelling

Travelling is stressful because you have to quickly move from place to place without enough time. The more time you have, the less stressed you’ll feel.

Travelling can be stressful. Whether it's missing a flight, struggling to find a place to stay, or not understanding the locals, you might need a way to calm your travel anxiety. If you don't know how to, fortunately, this article is here to help. Here's how to stay relaxed when travelling.

Give yourself extra time
Travelling is stressful because you have to quickly move from place to place without enough time. The more time you have, the less stressed you'll feel. In fact, if it's your first time travelling somewhere, try giving yourself a few hours extra just in case something goes wrong. That way, if there's a delay or traffic or something else, you can afford to wait for it to be fixed. If there's no extra time, give yourself a break and take an earlier flight or train so that you don't stress out about your travel plans.

Travel with the right stuff
Leave the fancy clothes at home. Maybe pack some pants and a shirt, but don't bother with anything nicer. After all, you're going to get something dirty no matter what. If you do bring nice clothes, save these for only special occasions like a fancy meal out. The last thing you want is to damage your expensive clothing with all the activities you will be doing while travelling.

Find a mobile game that calms you
If you have a favorite mobile game, then bring it with you when you travel. That way, whenever your flight or train ride gets long and stressful, you can turn to that game to calm yourself down. Try online puzzle games or casino games at Lucky Nugget Casino. They're exciting at first, but you can also play them in a way that makes them soothing. For example, when you need to calm yourself down during the day, turn off the sound and try to beat your high score without losing too many lives or making mistakes.

Set reasonable expectations
If you're travelling for business, then remember that it might not be as exciting or relaxing as you hoped. You'll probably end up sitting in a boring meeting that doesn't really tell you anything new, so enjoy the free lunch and call it a day. If you're travelling to meet friends at the beach, don't expect to go out to fancy restaurants every night. Instead, look for outdoor cafés and cheaper food options so that you can save your money for when it really counts.

Try to stay positive — or at least neutral
When travelling, it's all too easy to get upset about things that are out of your control. A delayed flight might ruin an entire weekend, but you can't do anything about it. Try to stay positive by thinking about the fun time you'll have once you finally reach your destination. Or try to focus on other things in life so that you can distract yourself from the travel.

Act your way into feeling calm
Instead of worrying about your trip, act like you're not worried, and when you meet someone new, smile and shake their hand. Try to look friendly so that people will see you as approachable instead of anxious or nervous. Some people like to wear sunglasses before they arrive at their destination since it can make them feel more confident and less stressed. After all, some people believe the eyes are the window to the soul and may give away that you are not as confident.
