The top 4 things we miss most when travelling & how to solve it

Here are our top tips for ensuring you don’t miss out on the things you love most while travelling.

Travelling can be one of the most fulfilling things to do as a human. Exploring different cultures, tasting different foods and experiencing things you will without doubt never forget.

However, it can also make you realise what you miss. And quite dramatically too. Whether it be major parts of our lives such as family, or little things like our favourite TV shows or social media, these things do matter no matter where you are in the world.

There are of course ways around it though and while you may not feel like you’re home, you can find yourself small home away from homes.

Here are our top tips for ensuring you don’t miss out on the things you love most while travelling…

TV Shows
We’re going to start with something trivial but quite frankly something that most of us are addicted to in some capacity, and that’s television.

If you’re on the other side of the world, the chances are you aren’t going to be able to watch the latest US Netflix drama or the next instalment of your favourite sitcom. And what’s worse, all your friends are tweeting and talking about it.

Even when travelling downtime is a necessity and there are ways to catch up and enjoy your shows, not missing a single episode.

VPNs are the perfect way around this and by downloading one to your laptop you can enjoy shows from whichever country you want.

Many TV channels and streaming searches such as Netflix have geoblocks not allowing you to access content in certain countries. By getting hold of a Netflix VPN you’ll be able to set your IP address to the country where you wish to access content, and away you go! Your shows, any time, anywhere!

Home Comforts
We all miss our home comforts. After all, there’s nothing like sleeping in your own bed

No matter what the home comfort, there will be some way you can replicate it, or at least a percentage of it.

If your home comfort is a pillow for example, you can perhaps pack your own pillow case. While it won’t have the same comfort, you’ll be able to please the senses of smell and sight, which often makes up a good proportion of what makes us happy.

Equally items such as coffee cups and, favourite pyjamas, slippers and other smaller items are easily packable and can really brighten the mood if you’re feeling lost, tired or lonely while away from home.

Family
Of course family are the main thing people miss while away from home. Not seeing your parents, siblings or perhaps even children or partner for months on end can be incredibly tough.

There’s no replicant of being physically in the same room as them but regular Skype or FaceTime can be significant.

Scheduling in calls at specific times and specific days can help combat this feeling as you have something to look forward to and the peace of mind you have a time you will next speak to them.
