Three reasons why Jamaica is ready for tourists

Treasure Beach, Jamaica

Once the world has more people vaccinated you can look forward to experiencing some of Jamaica’s beautiful architecture, gorgeous nature, incredible cuisine and generous hospitality.

The pandemic had a severe effect on many countries that rely on tourism, including Jamaica. Businesses both large and small took a hit as the world came to a complete stop and people were forced to stop travelling. As vaccinations begin to roll out around the world, new guidelines will be put in place to allow the travel industry to function at full capacity again.

It’s nice to see Jamaica ramp up COVID-19 testing capacity, as this means they will be one step closer to welcoming visitors back to their country. Through prepared health measures, investment in food sustainability and growing real estate, there are a number of ways Jamaica has been getting ready to continue to offer the warm hospitality they are known for.

Preparedness
Jamaica has been working hard over the course of the pandemic to make changes and adapt to an ever-changing travel landscape. Their tourism website Visit Jamaica is an informative and easy way to understand the new regulations around travelling. Learn about the new entry requirements, on-island health and safety measures, testing capacity, and more. They offer an authentic, relaxing and COVID-secure travel experience for visitors, tourism workers and local communities.

Food sustainability
Many resorts had planned to have lots of food on hand for thousands of guests during the 2020 vacation season. When people had to leave abruptly and tourists suddenly weren’t flowing in every single day, the food began to pile up. Due to this experience, Jamaican hotels are seeking a sustainable path to COVID-19 recovery. Pete Pearson, Senior Director, Food Loss and Waste at World Wildlife Fund says, “The food waste program at Montego Bay showcases how the hotel industry can reshape the future of sustainable and waste-free food service, while still offering guests a luxury experience.”

They are taking amazing steps to measure and prevent food waste and ensure food security for everyone in their country. This means that they will reroute food to communities that need it and not to a landfill where it will create methane emissions. They are also providing incredible initiatives for small tourism enterprises and agriculturists that have been affected by the pandemic.

Housing market
Despite the many challenges faced over the last year, Jamaica’s housing market is resilient and thriving. Properties have held their value and continue to grow, even though the economy took a hit. Low mortgage rates and competition means realtors in Jamaica have been busy selling townhouses, condos and homes in gated communities. Many people from first time home buyers to foreign investors are buying real estate. All of this means when you make plans to visit Jamaica you’ll have a variety of luxury Montego Bay villa options to choose from.

These are some great reasons to consider Jamaica as one of your first safe destinations for a vacation post-pandemic. Once the world has more people vaccinated you can look forward to experiencing some of Jamaica’s beautiful architecture, gorgeous nature, incredible cuisine and generous hospitality.
