Top tips for planning your next holiday

Below we have put together four tips for booking your breakaway.

Have you started to think about booking your next break away? Planning your next holiday is great fun and gives you something to look forward to in the coming months. There are so many different types of breaks away, sports holidays, a hiking trip, a city break or you could relax on a beach. With all of these trips, be sure to book in advance, try to be flexible, set a budget and pack wisely (this will save you a lot of money on luggage). Below we have put together four tips for booking your breakaway.

Book in advance
Booking in advance often saves you money and gives you something to look forward to earlier. It also gives you more choice and things will be available instead of being sold out. When heading on a hiking trip such as to tackle some of the Camino Portugues routes, be sure to book with an agent such as Camino Portugues Coastal to get the best trip and take the hassle out of the planning process. The sooner you book, the great flexibility you will have on hotels, room upgrades and you can start saving for it sooner.

Be flexible on the destination
If you are planning a trip away with your friends, depending on the size, you will need to be flexible on the destination. Depending on everyone's holiday allowance, when they can book days off and how long they can book off will change a variety of factors on your trip. If you enjoy hiking, it may be that you have to move your Camino Primitivo trip from Oviedo to Lugo to accompany others. If you are looking into something different like a cruise, be flexible on the countries you want to visit. When booking flights, watch out for price changes and at the same time don’t rush if you think the destination could change.

Set a budget
When you are deciding on where to go on your breakaway, try to set a budget beforehand. Not only will this help narrow down your search results, but it also gives you a realistic expectation of where you can go. Some areas within a country are more expensive than others, for example, Santorini is seen as an expensive Greek island, whereas Rhodes tends to be cheaper. When setting a budget, be realistic about what you can save, don’t do it alone if you are travelling with others and be prepared for things to be more expensive than you initially think.

Pack wisely
Packing wisely will not only save you money but it also means you will have less stuff to carry around with you on your breakaway. How many times have you come back from a trip with many clothes that have not been worn? It happens to many and results in more washing! Try to make a packing list on Excel, that way you tick things off as you pack and be sure that you have everything you need. Try not to leave it to the last minute as this can be stressful and lead to more things being packed than needed.
