Calm down in the new Nagomi Spa at the Prestigious Okura Hotel Amsterdam

The spa has five treatment rooms with natural light, including one double room for couples. In addition there is a ‘herbal tea lounge’, a private relaxation area, a Japanese stone garden and is located adjacent to Nagomi Health with its pool, steam room and sauna.

The Japanese owned, five star Hotel Okura Amsterdam has opened its brand new Nagomi Spa. Combining European styling with Japanese influences ‘Nagomi’, meaning ‘calm down’ in Japanese, offers a peaceful oasis in the heart of the city enabling guests to sample a series of Japanese inspired treatments using exclusive Sothy products from France.

The design
Using dark wood and unique fabrics the 300m² spa has been designed by UK interior designer Jan Wilson from RPW Design in London. It was inspired by the Japanese concept of the ‘Tsuboniwa’ courtyard gardens, creating a soothing environment in which guests are able to relax.

The spa has five treatment rooms with natural light, including one double room for couples. In addition there is a ‘herbal tea lounge’, a private relaxation area, a Japanese stone garden and is located adjacent to Nagomi Health with its pool, steam room and sauna.

The treatments
Anita Winter has been appointed Nagomi Spa Manager and has created a spa menu of signature body treatments, facials, manicures and pedicures, massages and beauty rituals using products by Sothys Paris. In addition there are specific treatments for men and authentic Japanese therapists offer traditional Shiatsu massage, for which the hotel is renowned.

A popular treatment is the Japan-inspired Hanakasumi, a unique treatment that cleanses the body. It begins with a gommage, scented with cherry blossoms and lotus, while feet are massaged using techniques based on shiatsu massage. The gommage is then removed using an exfoliating glove followed by a relaxing body massage.

Special Packages
The Hotel Okura Amsterdam is renowned for its five star accommodation, Michelin star cuisine and remains a favourite bolt hole for leisure and business visitors to the city.  A series of ‘Spa and Dining’ packages are available with the addition of lunch or dinner in the hotel’s one Michelin star, traditional Japanese restaurant, Yamazato.

Commenting on the opening of the spa Emme Stoel, General Manager said “With the opening of Nagomi Spa the hotel renovation has now finished. By adding a spa to our facilities, Hotel Okura Amsterdam is now the most complete and unique hotel in Amsterdam. In addition to a choice of comfortable rooms, conference facilities, restaurants, bars and a cooking school, guests can now also enjoy relaxing spa treatments and our hotel is a ‘city resort’, ideal for weekends stays.”
