Currently being constructed atop the old bus terminal on Therry Street, Melbourne – Central Sky Lounge Apartment Hotel is the newest addition to the Melbourne city skyscape. The $45 million, 152 room serviced apartment project is the latest offering from highly respected Brisbane-based property management group, Central Apartments & Hotels.
Central is Brisbane’s largest and longest running operator of residences, apartment hotels and conference venues and as part of the Pradella Group, one of Brisbane’s most innovative property developers and construction companies, have built a reputation of vision and success in Queensland and New Zealand.
Construction of the four level serviced apartment hotel complex began in October 2007 by Therry Street Developments and is being built by Maxcon Pty Ltd with a planned completion date of April 2009, ready to open on 1 May.
Project Management firm, Nash Management Group are managing the works for the Developer and their Projects Director, Chris Nash explained that there were quite a few hurdles in the procurement of the design and then the construction of the four-level air rights project in Melbourne’s CBD.
“We set out to add as many additional floors to the existing 8 storey building as possible whilst considering the existing structure and the restraints of weights and loading capacities. We have used a combination of precast concrete, structural steel, timber flooring and glazed curtain walls systems in the design. It is a fairly unique circumstance to build an air rights project and obviously adds to the complexity of the construction methodology. Maxcon have performed this task very well and have taken to the challenges with great success. The extensive use of glass to the curved western facade and the feature glass roof to the sky lounge area on level 9 has created a fantastic space for Central guests to enjoy the hotels services. The uninterrupted views to the West and of the City skyline are just superb. Two new elevators have been included in the construction for the use of hotel guests. Guests can enter at level four of the car park which will take them directly to the hotel reception, to their rooms or to level nine which holds the glass-roofed Sky Lounge restaurant and bar,” said Chris.
Due to open in May 1st, 2009, the four-level boutique-style Central Sky Lounge comprises 152 luxury studio and one-bedroom apartments, which will all include air-conditioning, cable television, DVD player and flat screen TV, ISD/STD direct dial phone and broadband internet connection.
