Choice Hotels' Cambria Hotels & Suites brand arrives in Washington, D.C.

New upscale, all-suite hotel opens its doors as local travel sets records.

WASHINGTON – Choice Hotels International, Inc. and Concord Hospitality, an award-winning hotel management and development company, announced that the new Cambria Hotel & Suites Washington D.C. Convention Center is officially open to welcome travelers to the area. Located at 899 O Street NW, the Cambria Hotel & Suites Washington, D.C. Convention Center is conveniently situated in the historic Shaw neighborhood in the heart of downtown. It is the first Cambria Hotels & Suites property to open in the city.

“Cambria Hotels & Suites continues to experience tremendous growth with a focus on top-tier, urban markets. This is the first Cambria Hotels & Suites in the nation’s capital, and we are thrilled to open in such a lively and historic city where both business and leisure travel are booming,” said Michael Murphy, senior vice president, Upscale Brands, Choice Hotels International. “Concord Hospitality brings nearly 30 years of hospitality experience, making them a phenomenal development partner for Choice. We know they will deliver the Cambria experience at its best – stylish, modern comfort at a great value.”

According to the latest research from Destination DC, the district welcomed a total of 18.5 million visitors in 2012, including approximately 16.8 million domestic and 1.7 million overseas travelers, setting a new record for the city.

Arriving on the scene at a perfect time, the Cambria Hotel & Suites Washington, D.C. Convention Center is a hotel of firsts for the brand and for Choice Hotels. The 182-suite hotel is the first hotel from the Cambria brand to offer a truly urban interpretation of the brand’s design, the first property to be part of a mixed-use development and the first LEED-certified Cambria Hotels & Suites.

“From the art and the architecture, to the cuisine and the staff, this Cambria embodies characteristics of Washington, D.C. and more specifically, of the Shaw neighborhood,” said Mark Laport, chief executive officer and president of Concord Hospitality. “We look forward to bringing a personalized, memorable experience to our guests and working with Choice Hotels.”

Guests entering the Cambria Hotel & Suites Washington, D.C. Convention Center will immediately notice the iconic LED-lit red terrazzo staircase housed in two stories of glass. The staircase leads to an open lobby extending the length of the property, which is filled with local artwork depicting scenes from the historic neighborhood. The property also features a rooftop pool with views of the U.S. Capitol and national monuments, along with a special urban oasis courtyard that bridges into the neighborhood.

The all-suite rooms, which are typically 20 percent larger than standard hotel rooms, offer functional, chic décor options, including a separate living, working and sleeping space, ergonomic chairs, moveable desks and upscale linens. Each suite allows guests to stay connected while they travel by enjoying the latest technology and prime entertainment with amenities such as flat-screen LCD televisions and MP3 jacks.

With nine floors and more than 1,200 square feet of state-of-the-art meeting and conference space, all equipped with high-tech audio and visual equipment, this hotel is perfect for business travelers who need space to work, but also want amenities that provide a sense of relaxation. The hotel is also conveniently located one block from the Washington Convention Center.

Like all Cambria Hotels & Suites, the Washington, D.C. property will feature other fine amenities such as a contemporary bistro serving a dinner menu comprised of local specialties created by Chef Michael DeMaria; liquor, wine, beer and freshly prepared grab-and-go gourmet salads and sandwiches; and a barista bar featuring coffee and a hot breakfast buffet.

In addition, the entire property will offer complimentary wired and wireless high-speed internet access, an on-site business center and free airport transportation.
