CityHub to expand international portfolio with new Icelandic hotel

CityHub

Iceland’s booming tourist industry has continues to thrive in recent years, with a 16% year-on-year growth in overnight tourism stays for 2023, and this number is only set to increase with forecasts suggesting 2024 could be a record-breaking year for tourism.

LONDON – CityHub has announced it will launch its fourth hotel in Reykjavik this summer following the huge success of its Amsterdam, Copenhagen and Rotterdam hotels.

Recognised for its forward-thinking digital approach and smart design, CityHub reimagines the conventional hotel room with stylish Hubs, empowering travellers to curate their stay and deliver unforgettable city escapes to well-known destinations. Supported by a committed team of ‘CityHosts’ available round-the-clock, guests are provided with assistance to maximise their enjoyment of CityHub’s amenities and navigate the city effortlessly.

With 89 Hubs and 4 accessible rooms, the hotel will be conveniently located in Hverfisgata, making it a perfect addition to an already lively hospitality scene, and a short distance from Laugavegur, a bustling street lined with restaurants, bars, shops and art galleries.

Working in collaboration with developers Thingvangur and local interior designers, HAF Studio, the Reykjavik CityHub will be inspired by Iceland’s colourful nature, including a charismatic hangout area for guests to relax and plan their trip alongside the chic Hubs and bathrooms. Reflecting CityHub’s revolutionary approach and disruption of the traditional perception of a hotel city stay, the design will blend the comfort and privacy of a hotel with both community and affordability in one of Europe’s most vibrant cities.

The upcoming launch of CityHub Reykjavik continues the company’s deep-rooted ethos of reinventing how urban spaces in cities are used, to not only secure superior returns because of its smart use of space but also to ensure a more responsible stay. In converting an existing building, the CityHub will radically reduce the CO2 emissions of its travellers, setting the industry standard in doing so.

Sem Schuurkes, Founder of CityHub comments: “As a city known for its pioneering design and hospitality excellence, Reykjavik seamlessly fits our expanding portfolio and represents an important milestone in the growth of CityHub.

Iceland is breathtaking and on so many travel bucket lists, but it does have a reputation for sometimes being an expensive place to visit. CityHub is determined to break down these barriers and prove that such destinations can be affordable without compromising on comfort and amenities.

Staying ahead of the ever-evolving demands of consumers, especially those who prefer travel experiences that are unique, cost-effective and socially responsible, we believe our latest CityHub offers an unconventional alternative to your classic accommodation in the area for people who previously considered Iceland to be beyond budgets and reach.

Alongside our partnership with developers Thingvangur, we wanted a local designer to support in the development of the CityHub, specifically to showcase Iceland’s unique offering. We are incredibly excited to see the Reykjavik CityHub flourish in the bustling heart of Hverfisgata.

As Northern Europe becomes the latest holiday hotspot for the travel industry, we want to cater towards a new generation of travellers who are looking for affordable city escapes and connect them with a global community of like-minded and tech-savvy people wanting to explore the world without the hefty price tag”.

Pálmar Harðarson, owner of Thingvangur comments: “We are proud to collaborate with CityHub on the development of CityHub Reykjavik. We have a shared commitment to enhancing urban landscapes in a sustainable way and this new hotel will provide a completely new way for people to experience Reykjavik. We are excited to bring CityHub Reykjavik to life and provide visitors with a modern, authentic and eco-friendly new accommodation offering in this dynamic city.”
