IHG Hotels & Resorts opens new Hotel Indigo in the heart of Guadalajara

Hotel Indigo Guadalajara Expo draws on its rich cultural background to create an authentic neighborhood stay experience for guests.

Hotel Indigo, part of IHG Hotels & Resorts’ luxury and lifestyle collection, continues to strengthen its presence in Mexico, with the opening of Hotel Indigo Guadalajara Expo located in Guadalajara’s historic district, Chapalita.

Just as no two neighborhoods are alike, no two Hotel Indigo properties are alike. Founded in 1943 and inspired by the mid-19th century ‘garden city’ ideology, which stressed the importance of nature to the health of its residents, the neighborhood of Chapalita was named after Lake Chapala and is one of the few places in the city where you can regularly see orioles, hummingbirds, blue jays, and other species of birds flitting between the trees. Hotel Indigo Guadalajara Expo embraces its neighborhood’s notorious architectonic influence through a mix of classic Mexican and contemporary styles.

Originally built for the 1970 World Cup, this hotel hosted Pele and the Brazilian national team during their trip then. Today, after a  renovation, it has been brought up to a new level of design that resonates with its legacy, helping guests understand and connect with the background story of the property to experience an authentic immersive neighborhood stay.

Carol Hoeller, Vice President of Hotel Indigo, commented: “We’ve embarked on a journey to increase our estate in the next three to five years, to 200 hotels globally and are seeing an increase in desire from both our IHG One Rewards members and investors for more lifestyle brands in Mexico; so we are meeting that demand with Hotel Indigo, a brand that captures the true essence of its surroundings to offer guests a gateway into local culture and community. We are excited to bring our brand to Guadalajara which is not only Mexico’s second largest city but a cultural and technological hub, filled with distinct culture and character, as unique as each of our hotels.”

Beyond its wealth of greenery, Chapalita is a neighborhood that likes to play. The seven story, 162-room Hotel Indigo Guadalajara Expo, managed by Operadora Javipa, sits near Glorieta Chapalita – a park where artists and musicians gather and celebrate the playful nature of the neighborhood. Other nearby spots not to be missed include several famous fountains – such as Hermana Agua – designed by Mexico’s most influential avant-garde architect, Fernando González Gortázar. And the stunning collection of art deco and Mexican modernist buildings – amongst them Finca Las Rosas, designed by Luis Barragán, which is now home to a boutique, coffee shop, and a lively events terrace that allows you to get up close and personal with one of his most joyous creations.

General Director at Operadora Javipa, said: “The history of our privileged location made for a dream spot for a Hotel Indigo property, which celebrates and elevates the communities they are in. Chapalita remains a place powered by its people, the result is local pride like no other, one which we share. Because of its proximity to the largest convention center in Southwest Mexico, it is also a thriving business district, which means leisure and business travelers alike will find convenience, charm, and luxury, right in the heart of Guadalajara; we are excited to welcome them.”

This city is renowned for its culinary delights, and Hotel Indigo embraces this aspect wholeheartedly by showcasing the flavors and ingredients that define the local cuisine of Guadalajara and Jalisco at the brand’s on-site restaurant, JAL Cocina de Raíz, and rooftop bar Setenta -in a gentle nod to the property’s historic ties to soccer -which offers unparalleled views of the city.

Additional hotel amenities include a fitness center with cardio and weight-training equipment as well as a business center, a gift shop, one ballroom with three breakouts and six rooms for meetings with different configurations that can host events of various sizes, and an auditorium.

With a stay, guests will also have access to a best-in-class loyalty program, IHG One Rewards, which is centered around its guests – giving them richer benefits and more ways to earn than ever before, all powered by the leading technology of its new mobile app.

Hotel Indigo has 143 hotels open globally, with another 127 in the pipeline*. Recent and upcoming openings include Hotel Indigo Galapagos, Hotel Indigo Panama City Marina, Hotel Indigo Bordeaux Center Chartrons, Hotel Indigo Tokyo Shibuya and Hotel Indigo La Paz.
