SWITZERLAND – The Kulm Country Club at the legendary Kulm Hotel St. Moritz is now available for meetings, incentive groups, small conferences and events. Set within the hotel’s extensive grounds, this new venue offers privacy and tranquillity to groups of varying sizes. The Orangerie at the Kulm Country Club is best suited for private dinners and high-level board meetings (thanks to discreet IT and projection facilities) of no more than 12 people, while the main restaurant can accommodate groups of up to 40 for a sit down dinner. If the entire building is hired (restaurant, private dining room and bar), the Kulm Country Club can host up to 150 people for a cocktail reception and buffet.
The Kulm Country Club has a very special ambiance, being the new incarnation of the hotel’s historic ice pavilion, which has been refurbished at a cost of CHF12 million under the guidance of world-famous architect and St. Moritz resident Lord Foster. The ice pavilion first opened in 1905 and immediately became the place for residents and visitors to gather, sitting on the terrace soaking up the sun and admiring the panoramic Alpine views, intermittently taking spins on the natural ice rink in front of the building.
In 1928 and 1948, the building was the official event base for the Winter Olympic Games, but by the 1980s it had ceased to be used and fell into disrepair. A synthesis of Art Nouveau and traditional Swiss style, the building is protected, so the recent renovation retained key elements of the building, such as the main staircase and window frames. Historic artefacts and memorabilia were also preserved creating a museum of the building; Lord Foster personally picked and positioned these items, alongside a selection of photographs, bobsleighs, sledges and other decorative pieces from the region.
However, modern technologies and equipment, such as a new kitchen and a single core with lifts, food hoists and a second set of stairs, have been introduced to enhance the performance of the building and make it more accessible. On the first floor, the Kulm Country Club has a wood-panelled restaurant with floor to ceiling picture windows and the private dining room, both of which have access to a large sun terrace and overlook the tennis courts in summer/ice rink in winter. On the ground floor, there is a lounge and bar area, with another terrace.
The light Mediterranean-inspired menu, created by the Kulm Hotel’s Head Chef Mauro Taufer, makes the most of regional and seasonal ingredients. The award-winning maitre d’ and sommelier Adriana Novotna, who previously worked at the gourmet restaurant Kronenstubli in sister property Grand Hotel Kronenhof, is in charge of service at the Kulm Country Club.
Additionally, the main building of the Kulm Hotel is home to six stylish event rooms that are suitable for small and intimate occasions or large-scale events for up to 350 guests, be it a luxury seminar, conference, business meeting or product presentation. All of the rooms are equipped with state-of-the-art technology and have plenty of natural light, with dedicated staff on standby to take care of the planning from A to Z and ensure a successful professional event or unforgettable celebratory occasion.
The resort of St. Moritz provides an unspoilt and glorious natural setting for meetings, incentives and conferences. Located at an altitude of 1800m, this high valley is famous for its sunny climate, awe-inspiring panoramic vistas, the seemingly endless expanse of the lake-strewn valley of the Engadine and the exceptional quality of the light, perfect for brainstorming or getting outdoors as a team, dependent on the needs of the group.
A top-class programme of glamorous events take place throughout the year, including the Snow Polo World Cup, White Turf, Engadine Skimarathon, Gourmet Festival, Festival da Jazz, British Classic Car Meeting and Art Masters.
There are also endless activities suitable for groups in both summer and winter. In summer, hiking, sailing, paddle boarding and golf (the Kulm has its own 9-hole course) are accessible to all, as is mountain biking thanks to electric bikes, which enable even the less athletic members of a group to tackle the mountainous terrain with ease. In winter, there is the chance to ride passenger in a sled on the Olympic bobsleigh run, snowshoe, ski-jore and, of course, ski. A highlight is the VIP Snow Night at Corvatsch when guests have the whole run at their exclusive disposal, plus a culinary adventure in one of the mountain huts.
