Muza Lab crafts a collection of F&B experiences for summer

The collection of pop-ups, which were designed and installed in less than two months, included two temporary additions to existing venues and one entirely new destination.

Boutique interior design studio, Muza Lab, has made its entrance into the world of pop-ups with the design of three F&B installations for this summer season on Croatia’s beautiful Dalmatian coast. Located in the grounds of the Falkensteiner Hotel & Spa Iadera on the Punta Skala peninsula, the pop-ups have added vibrant new layers of experience for locals and passing holiday makers as well as for guests staying in the five-star hotel, from barefoot luxury hang-out on the beach to cool new bar by the pool.

The collection of pop-ups, which were designed and installed in less than two months, included two temporary additions to existing venues and one entirely new destination. Each was different in vibe but all offered a sense of exclusivity, a lot of fun and a wealth of instagrammable moments.

Bracera Beach Club & Fish House
Here, everything is of the sea. The name itself belongs to the traditional vessels that have sailed the Adriatic for hundreds of years, the fish is brought in daily by local fishermen and panoramic views towards the far horizon make this the perfect place for sundowner cocktails. Muza Lab re-styled the restaurant, changing the ambience to create a venue that adapted easily through day and evening, from morning coffee through all-day light bites to late night dinner, and proved that pop-up by the beach can be a real crowd pleaser. This summer, BoHo chic met beach club with new furniture and seating options set among the ancient trees and rocks of the coastline’s craggy landscape or arranged on freshly decked terraces, between them offering guests a variety of experiential touchpoints. There were large bean bags to lounge on, umbrellas like the sails of a ship and Moroccan lanterns casting filtered shadows by night. The colour palette was nautical – blues and white combined with pale timbers. The impression was of stylish simplicity matching the honesty of the food.

Sotto Voce
A re-design of a terrace translated the area into the chicest bar in Punta Skala. Sotto Voce became the place to be seen, highball in hand while world funk, Latino and sometimes live percussion set the pace. The colour palette drew on the hues of this verdant corner, combining rich greens with splashes of yellow; in the centre of the space, a pavilion, designed by Muza Lab, brought added theatre to the experience. Elegant rattan furniture, over-sized green bean bags and umbrellas that swayed in the breeze completed the sophisticated look.

The Hideout
This brand-new destination was located at the farthest point of the pier. It was designed as a relaxing lounge-by-the-sea, a place to hideaway with family and friends and enjoy tostadas and slushies while listening to the feel-good sounds of global soul or relaxing with the rhythm of waves lapping the shore. The experience was “castaway”, from the wooden shack, designed by Muza and housing the kitchen and bar, to a tent for cosying-up in, swings and picnic tables with benches. Chinese lanterns were strung across the trees, low sofas and tables were combined with bean bags prominently placed for the best views and pastel-toned flags were driven into the ground, marking the spot not for rescue, but retreat.

Personally, I love designing and styling pop-ups. It’s the opportunity to connect with new audiences and experiment with different ideas and it’s good to know that your work comes with a lighter footprint than is often the case when designing permanent structures”, said Inge Moore, Co-Founder, Muza Lab

Rarity and exclusivity are luxuries that are ever-more important to people and pop-ups tick both boxes. They are hot spots for new experiences, and the fact that the fun and buzz is temporary makes them all-the-more precious”, said Nathan Hutchins, Co-Founder, Muza Lab

Muza Lab worked in close partnership with Gorgeous Group, the branding and concept development specialists behind great F&B destinations around the world.
