Radisson Hotels & Resorts, along with its division`s regional development and operations group, Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific, announced that it has signed an agreement to manage a new Radisson hotel currently under construction in the Bangladeshi capital, Dhaka. It will be Radisson`s first hotel in that country.

The new five-star Radisson Water Garden Hotel, scheduled to open by the end of 2003, is part of a major hotel expansion program being undertaken by Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific to aggressively expand three of its hotel brands, including Radisson Hotels & Resorts, Regent International Hotels and Country Inns & Suites By Carlson, throughout the region.

The 211-room Radisson Water Garden Hotel will increase the number of Radisson hotels in Asia Pacific to 29 across 10 countries and bring a new level of accommodation to an emerging market in the region, said Bjorn Gullaksen, executive vice president and brand leader for Radisson Hotels & Resorts.

Bringing our world-renowned brands, like Radisson, to emerging business markets like Bangladesh is a primary objective for Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific, said Paul Kirwin, president and managing director of Carlson Hotels Asia Pacific. The Water Garden will be Dhaka`s leading world-class hotel.

The emerging market of the People`s Republic of Bangladesh has a population of 129 million, a growing manufacturing industry and international trade is increasing with Western Europe, the United States, Hong Kong, Japan, India, China and Singapore.

Kirwin and Gullaksen shared that further development plans for the Radisson brand in the region include such important gateway cities as Hong Kong, Singapore, Mumbai, Kuala Lumpur, capital cities in Australia and New Zealand–plus resorts in Thailand, Malaysia, Vietnam and Indonesia.

The Radisson Water Garden Hotel is situated approximately three miles from the international airport and close by the embassy enclave. The nine-story building features a full height atrium lobby, two banquet ballrooms, nine meeting rooms, three restaurants, health club, swimming pool and nine-hole golf course.

The Radisson Water Garden Hotel is being developed by Sena Hotel Developments Ltd. (SHDL), a local joint venture between the Army Welfare Trust and Sena Kalyan Shangstha.
