Scorpios launches on Mykonos

Located a short, scenic stroll from San Giorgio Mykonos, guests of the hotel and visitors alike can pass languid days and evenings ensconced by a feast for the senses.

BERLIN, SCORPIOS – The beach, restaurant and cultural hub offshoot of San Giorgio Mykonos Hotel – is now welcoming on a sun-drenched southern tip of Mykonos island. The sprawling peninsula property has been transformed into a modern day agora. Together with Thomas Heyne and Mario Hertel – the visionaries behind the hotel – Design Hotels is spearheading a new movement in sun-driven, holistic beach culture. Located a short, scenic stroll from San Giorgio Mykonos, guests of the hotel and visitors alike can pass languid days and evenings ensconced by a feast for the senses. The seaside lair sits overlooking the rugged wild of a nature sanctuary, hugged by the Aegean Sea. The haven encompasses a sandy sunset beach, restaurant, and live event space, along with ample open-air terraces spilling into the Cycladic coastline.

Seeing a clear shift in entertainment from a beat-driven nightclub to a balance-restoring day-long cultural gathering, Scorpios is taking nocturnal inspirations into the daylight. An energized sensory experience for the like-minded to engage, inspire and revel. An inclusive atmosphere, sunset rituals centered around intellectual programming and tactile laid-back luxury provide for an all-around easygoing aura. Top international DJ talent sets the tone every day from 2 p.m., offering a heady mix to match the mood. In a clear invitation to unwind, let go, and reconnect, a perfect mix of rural charm and understated elegance sets the tone in this natural paradise.

“I loved this idea of re-imagining the Greek agora – a place where thought is cultivated and the soul nourished by sublime surroundings, fresh food and inspired cultural programming” said Claus Sendlinger, Founder and CEO of Design Hotels.

Sun and Salt Inspirations
Heyne and Hertel continue their collaboration with the design team responsible for the bohemian-luxe visual identity of San Giorgio Mykonos hotel. Stylist Annabell Kutucu and creative director Michael Schickinger of Lambs and Lions have teamed up with award-winning architects Dimitris and Konstantinos Karampatakis of K-studio, Athens, bringing together visionary talent for a holistic design approach. As an extension of the San Giorgio Mykonos philosophy, the harmonious whole welcomes guests as though they’ve entered through the doors of an old friend.

Central to the property is the gently weather-worn house with classic white washed and natural stone walls. Simultaneously evoking 1960s Greek glamour and contemporary modernism, the structure consists of a main floor with lower level and is surrounded by open-air terraces. At the heart of it all, the welcoming living room, restaurant and bar evoke slowed simplicity. Low-slung sofas, rope hammocks and abundant wickerwork harmoniously unite under a thatched ceiling. The entirety exudes a sense of ease and lightness. An emphasis on the essential and the celebration of traditional craftsmanship and local Greek culture are the guiding principles behind both the design and hospitality. Mixing minimalism with rich textures and handcrafted details, nothing is overbearing but just right.

Fresh to Table
The rustic-chic restaurant at the center of the house comfortably seats 200, spilling onto an outside terrace overlooking the sea. The ideal place to gather under a shady canopy, long, leisurely meals can stretch into the afternoon or evening. Relying heavily on fresh seasonal produce from the fertile land, the top-level culinary talent lets the quality of the ingredients shine – blending local Greek flavors with Asian influences. The result is a confident cuisine that strips away the unessential and focuses on purity, authenticity, and the reinterpretation of quintessential seaside recipes.

Mezcal, Music and More…
The Mexican-based artist and alchemy duo behind gem&bolt’s mezcal bring their seductively cultish aesthetic to the bar’s overall concept and visual identity. More than a notable lifestyle brand, the pioneering line of organic damiana-distilled mezcal was founded by AdrinAdrina and Elliott Coon in 2012, promoting a life charged with art, health and celebration. As a commitment to these values, they pledge to reinvest one dollar per bottle, supporting artists and creating art within the brand.

A curated on-site boutique features individually-spirited offerings from quality craftsmen, friends, and partners such as Caravana Montaecristo. For the first time Caravana will leave its native Yucatan Peninsula in Mexico, traveling to its new home at Scorpios. Offering an exclusive capsule collection for globetrotters, the travel-focused label features handcrafted pieces ranging from engraved leather goods to artisanal garments made from unrefined textiles. Caravana’s signature aesthetic of easy neutrals and draped stylings also outfit the Scorpios crew.

Sunset Rituals
With the day’s events centered around sunset rituals, musical programming begins at 2 p.m. and guides guests through the ceremony of sundown, until 2 a.m. Unlike much of Mykonos where headlining acts take stage just before sunrise, Scorpios evening-centric line-ups bring a sophisticated edge for the evolving tastes of guests to the island. Scorpios’ music concept merges deep ethnic sounds, ambient melodies, world folklore, Detroit house and Berlin sounds. The culturally diverse schedule of regular residencies and impromptu performances ensures guests are symphonically satiated.
