Sense Internet develops a UK first with GPS-based iPhone application

Sense Internet, the new media and software development agency, has developed a free GPS-based iPhone application that allows users to find and book the nearest Travelodge or affiliated hotel room. It’s believed to be a UK first and follows close liaison between Sense, Apple and Travelodge over its development. Even prior to its release, the excitement surrounding the new Travelodge iBooker has led to the application being shortlisted for the ‘Best Use of Mobile Technology Award’ at the Yorkshire Digital Awards 2009.

The iBooker can be downloaded to the iPhone from iTunes and – thanks to its GPS feature – the display shows where the nearest available Travelodge or affiliated hotel room is, with the price. A simple three-step booking procedure secures the room.

“It’s fast, neat and convenient – and the idea for it came out of our constant innovation programme,” says Sense Internet Managing Director Aidan Cook. “We are always thinking of ways to help our clients and this innovation is just one of the many we have devised. “We’re especially chuffed because the application looks like a UK first. To our knowledge no other chain of hotels has a product like it and to ice the proverbial cake, it’s on the way to the Yorkshire DigitalAwards.”
