Desmond Hatton is appointed General Manager of Shangri-La`s Barr Al Jissah Resort & Spa, Muscat, starting 1 July 2004. This is the group`s first property in Oman and is scheduled to open in summer 2005. A native of Ireland, Desmond joined the group in 1994 as General Manager of
Shangri-La`s Fijian Resort in Fiji; and subsequently managed the Traders Hotel in Yangon, Myanmar; Shangri-La`s Rasa Ria Resort in Sabah, Malaysia, and most recently Mactan Island Resort in Cebu, the Philippines.
Timothy Wright, pre-opening General Manager of the Shangri-La Hotel project in New Delhi, is re-locating to replace Desmond Hatton as General Manager at Shangri-La`s Mactan Island Resort in Cebu, starting 28 June 2004.
The current General Manager of Shangri-La Hotel, Penang, Gilbert Jung, will transfer to the Shangri-La Hotel, New Delhi from 24 June 2004. Shangri-La`s
first hotel in India will open in January 2005, with 326 guest rooms.
Replacing Gilbert Jung in Penang will be C.V. Healy, who has held the position of General Manager at the group`s hotels in Taipei, Shanghai and Qingdao.
