The Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket, part of the fully-integrated Laguna Phuket resort complex, remains operational with all guests and staff accounted for following the tidal waves that struck the island on Sunday morning.

Due to the nature of the resort’s location, the hotel was largely spared in comparison to other destinations on the island. A full structural assessment has taken place and all buildings at the resort are completely safe and free of risk.

Affected areas at the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket include six Ocean rooms—rooms that were closest to the beachfront and on the ground floor. All remaining rooms and villas at the 335 room luxury resort were untouched.

In addition, two restaurants—Chao Lay and Gekko Steak & Seafood Lizard Lounge—were affected by the surging waves and sustained damage to furnishings, but remain structurally sound. Chao Lay, the resort’s Thai restaurant, will be reopened after cleaning on 31 December. The beach area has undergone extensive cleaning since the events of Sunday and is available to receive guests from 28 December.

All other areas of the resort remain fully-operational and there were no injuries to guests as a result of the tidal wave. To aid in disaster relief for families of the staff and suppliers of the resort, the Sheraton Grande Laguna Phuket has set up a Tsunami Relief Fund for charitable donations from guests and other concerned parties.
