Iberia informs all its customers that as of January 1st, they must check in at least 45 minutes before scheduled departure times. (This limit is 20 minutes for the Puente Aereo shuttle service between Madrid and Barcelona.) This new requirement is intended to ensure the punctuality of departures and to prevent passengers from missing their flights due to bottlenecks at security filters, due to the increased sensitivity of metal detectors.
After checking in and receiving their boarding cards, passengers should proceed to the departure gates at least 20 minutes before the schedule
departure time of their flight.
Passengers flying without luggage to a destination in Spain, the European Union, or any country covered by the Schengen Treaty*, and holding their boarding cards, must also advise Iberia of the presence at least 45 minutes before the scheduled flying time, but they can do this at any Iberia counter (including check-in counters), VIP lounge, or automatic check-in machine. They must also arrive at the boarding gate at least 20 minutes before departure.
