Tourism is a leading sector in the field of services with over 5 million tourists a year (from France, Germany, the United Kingdom, Italy, Spain and Arab Maghreb Countries.).

The growing tourist sector has become the country`s first exporting activity (guarantying an influx of currency), as these receipts cover over 60 % of Tunisia`s trade deficit. This sector is one of the main jobs providers employoying over 44 000 people working in the tourist industry and hotels, and over 300 000 people indirectly involved.

According to World Trade Organisation data, Tunisia was among the few countries that achieved an increase in tourism figures in 2002 (over 7,6%).

Tunisia owes this success both to its natural qualities, ranging from beautiful beaches to an amazing cultural and artistic heritage, and the dynamism of the public authorities in their efficient collaboration with the private sector.
