Highly anticipated boutique hotel and signature restaurant moves into next phase of construction.
ORLANDO, FLA. – The streetscape of Orange Avenue, just south of downtown Orlando is now an important step closer to featuring a brand new hotel and restaurant. The Delaney Hotel and Delaney's Tavern has moved into its next phase of construction, with official demolition beginning on the interior of the existing building to make room for a 54-room boutique hotel and 6,000 square foot bar and restaurant.
The demolition event of the 39,000-square-foot building, attended by elected officials, business leaders and members of the community, gave an inside look into the highly anticipated hotel and restaurant. Attendees donned hard hats and picked up sledgehammers to help kick off the second phase of construction. The $12 million project will include complete renovation and interior rebuild of the three-story building on Orange Avenue between E. Copeland Drive and Fernwood Street. The project will also incorporate exterior improvements and landscaping of the entire city block. The Delaney Hotel and Delaney's Tavern is a key project of the South Downtown development and is conveniently located across Orange Avenue from the Orlando Health campus and adjacent to the historic Delaney Park neighborhood.
"We are a unique, and much needed, addition to this neighborhood," said Greg Allowe, developer and operator. "The Delaney Hotel and Delaney's Tavern is going to be a place where this community can unwind, enjoy family dinners and serve as a home away from home for visitors to this area. With being right across the street from Orlando Health, we will also offer convenient dining and hotel options for those who come here for medical care as well as all of those who work in the Downtown South community."
The decision to convert the building, located at 1315 S. Orange Avenue, into a hotel and restaurant has been years in the making, especially as growth has continued in Downtown South, where hotel rooms are in high demand. Previously the building housed medical offices and Doc's Restaurant.
The project is being developed by Orlando-based 1405 South Orlando Partnership LLP, led by Orlando physicians and community leaders Dr. Tom Winters and Dr. Rebecca Moroose. The group is rounded out by additional local partners and Allowe, a renowned hospitality developer, who will oversee operations of the hotel and restaurant.
The Delaney Hotel and Delaney's Tavern is expected to be completed in May, 2017.
