44-year industry veteran brings focus on operational excellence
DOSWELL, VA. – Cedar Fair Entertainment Company has appointed amusement park industry veteran Tony Johnson as general manager of the Kings Dominion amusement park in Doswell, Va. effective immediately. Johnson has served in positions of increasing responsibility at Cedar Fair parks throughout his career, most recently as corporate vice president of operations where he oversaw rides, water parks and security throughout the company's eleven amusement parks.
Tim Fisher, Cedar Fair's chief operating officer, said, "Tony Johnson is a superb executive with deep experience and leadership skills. Kings Dominion has an exciting 2018 season ahead, with the opening of its new Twisted Timbers hybrid roller coaster next month as well as the introduction of the immersive holiday experience WinterFest in November. I am confident in Tony's ability to execute these endeavors with excellence, grow the business and enhance the guest experience throughout the season."
Johnson began his amusement park career as a seasonal associate at Kings Dominion. He assumed roles of increasing responsibility in a number of Cedar Fair parks including California's Great America in Santa Clara, Calif. and Carowinds in Charlotte, N.C. Roles have included leading security, water parks, rides and maintenance operations in addition to overall park operations leadership. Tony graduated from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill with a B.A. in education, as well as the Rappahannock Criminal Justice Academy. He currently serves on the International Association of Amusement Parks and Attractions (IAAPA) global security committee and the state of Virginia amusement device technical advisory committee.
