ICCA ranking: Rimini as a conference venue strengthens Italy’s climb to the podium of the 3 leading international players

IEG - Palacongressi di Rimini

Major satisfaction in Rimini for entering the world ranking.

RIMINI, ITALY – For Rimini and Italian Exhibition Group it is a source of immense satisfaction that the ICCA – International Congress and Convention Association – has ranked Italy among the top three congress destinations in the world. Rimini played a part in this climb, entering the general ranking of the 326 most important cities in the world for this activity.

On the 60th anniversary of its establishment, the global community representing ICCA has once again published its prestigious ranking after the WHO’s decision to revoke the global emergency status of Covid, marking a return to normality for the conference and congress industry.

The IEG Event&Conference delegation arrived at IMEX, along with the instrumental and significant presence of the mayor of Rimini, Jamil Sadegholvaad, to engage in a series of meetings with organisers and congress venues for constructive discussions on strategies and operating methods.

A key fixture at the Frankfurt event was the IMEX Policy Forum, a workshop for discussion between representatives of national and city policy makers, in which best practices were shared in terms of supporting the development of the conference industry, not only for the economic value of related industries but also the cultural and social impact.

“The confirmation of Rimini as the benchmark for the country’s conference industry is not just a coincidence, it is the result of forward-looking, well-planned choices, which over the last thirty years have seen the city invest in this specific segment of the tourism industry, intent on doing away with its reputation as merely a summer beach destination and proving how Rimini hospitality adjusts to the changing seasons which represents the key to the economic development of the area,” underlines Mayor Jamil Sadegholvaad. “Such intuition has enabled the city to create solid foundations to face unpredictable and profound crises, namely the recent pandemic, and today all the conditions are in place to continue on the path of consolidation and internationalisation of the sector, as evidenced by the calendar of high-profile and international appointments confirmed for the coming months”.

“It is truly an exceptional result” adds Corrado Peraboni, IEG CEO “which rewards investments in infrastructure, professional know-how and a territorial system which in recent years has worked hard and fast towards a result which now represents yet another springboard. The ICCA ranking is one of the requisites that make the Rimini area increasingly competitive in international bids, where major associations evaluate destinations for itinerant appointments around the globe”.

As for international appointments, SCIVAC 2023 was held at the Palacongressi in Rimini at the end of May, with about 2,500 guests from the professional and business world linked to pet veterinary medicine, while the appointment dedicated to poultry nutrition is scheduled from 21 June, supported by the Italian division of the World’s Poultry Science Association with 1,500 scientists from Europe: researchers and academics in the field of poultry nutrition, as well as company representatives.

Among medical scientific and corporate events, there are seven appointments scheduled for June at the Palacongressi, including IT Forum 2023 (Investment & Trading Forum (15 and 16 June), the XXV European ISSA Convention (16-18 June) and the 7th Open Day of the Italian penal chambers (9 and 10 June).
