The movers and shakers in New Mexico’s $5 billion-a-year tourism industry will gather October 16–18, 2006, at the Ruidoso Convention Center and the Inn of the Mountain Gods Resort in Mescalero for “Road Trip New Mexico,” the 18th annual New Mexico Governor’s Conference on Tourism.

The event – a collaboration of the Tourism Association of New Mexico (TANM) and the New Mexico Tourism Department – provides an opportunity for industry professionals to learn new ideas and share experiences through world-class speakers and informative sessions.

“The tourism industry is an important part of New Mexico’s economy and I am optimistic about its future,” said Governor Bill Richardson, who plans to take part in conference activities Monday (October 16). “New Mexico’s leisure and hospitality industry continues to grow adding 2,700 jobs during the past year. This event is an important part of keeping New Mexico’s tourism industry moving forward.”

“New Mexico`s tourism industry is resilient and strong, having overcome several challenges head-on over the past couple of years,” said Tourism Department Secretary Michael Cerletti. “Its strength as an industry relies on partnerships, mutual respect and a shared vision.”

Breakout session topics include Rollin RV Revenue by Dottie Maitland; Space Tourism and New Mexico’s Spaceport (panel); “Off the Beaten Path” Road Map to Fundraising by Pamela Chavez; Connecting Wildlife and Tourism (panel); Leveraging Partnerships (panel led by Laurie Frantz of the Tourism Department); Interactive Marketing by John Piccone; Marketing Adventure by Joe Robinson; and Working Together to Maximize Your Resources by Bobbi Webster.

“We must continue to work together as never before,” Secretary Cerletti said. “No one knows better why our visitors have chosen New Mexico than our industry partners. We invite you to share your ideas with us, and help make New Mexico the greatest tourist destination in the world.”
