TourismAfrica2006, which will be held in Geneva from September 10th to 15th 2006, aims at contributing to the development of Africa’s tourism industry by fostering the investment and financing of Tourist projects, focussing on sustainable development and promoting African destinations.

This international event benefits from a strategic partnership with the United Nations WTO and received the official support of leading institutions such as the African Union, UNCTAD, UNESCO, the World Bank, the African Development Bank and the Geneva State. It will gather qualified African and international decision-makers from the public and private sectors within three activities: a Congress under the patronage of the World Travel and Tourism Council, an Exhibition and a Business Development Center.

TourismAfrica2006 presents the diversity of tourism offers from the African continent to tourism professionals and allows them to discover in-depth the strong potentialities of African countries. Through their important promotion operations, Africa will become tomorrow`s highlight destination. During TourismAfrica2006, tourism operators will be exposed to the cultural and natural wealth of Africa in all its principal regions.

Many of our participants are African countries who have developed an offensive strategy for the promotion and development of their tourism industries such as Libya, Ethiopia, Mozambique, Cameroon and Benin .

African countries will present at their stands, the activities of their respective Ministries of Tourism and those of their Tourism Operators. In addition, they will meet in designated contact offices located in “Destination Africa” in order to develop co-operations.

Whereas Europe and the America are Africa`s first two markets, the participation of Tour Operators from India and China in the capacity of trade visitors to TourismAfrica2006 indicates that Asia carries a growing interest in Africa as a tourism destination.

“Destination Africa” is organised in co-operation with the UNWTO and aims at studying the tourism offers and tourist potentials from African countries and identifying new destinations. Located in the middle of the Business Development Center, this area is designed to meet the needs of the tour operators and international travel agencies with an aim of facilitating their meetings with the African tourism operators.

National associations of tour operators and travel agencies in Europe, in the United States, in Canada and in China mobilized their efforts to inform their members of the event and to support their participation.
