SF Giants CEO Larry Baer shares details on new partnership with the San Francisco Giants and Alaska Airlines

The dedication of a Giants-themed plane isn’t the first thing that Alaska Airlines has done with the Giants, and it’s not even the first plane the airline has dedicated to the team.

Larry Baer recently addressed fans and the media at the San Francisco International Airport (SFO). Alaska Airlines dedicated a Giants-themed plane, and it’s the relationship between the San Francisco Giants and Alaska Airlines that Baer spoke about.

Alaska Airlines has sponsored the Giants for four years
The dedication of a Giants-themed plane isn’t the first thing that Alaska Airlines has done with the Giants, and it’s not even the first plane the airline has dedicated to the team.

Alaska Airlines has been the official airline of the Giants since 2017, and the airline already has one Giants-themed plane. This second one is an Airbus 321 and will fly tail number N855VA.

The airline also has a Giants-themed premium lounge at San Francisco International Airport, which is the first airline lounge in the United States to feature a professional sports theme. Giants decor adorns the walls, and there’s also a children’s section with Giants-related games and artwork focusing on mascot Lou Seal.

Celebrated dedication of the second Giants-themed plane
This Giants-themed Airbus 321 took off from San Francisco International Airport and flew to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). Before takeoff, employees of Alaska Airlines dedicated the plane and everyone present enjoyed a celebration that included a DJ, giveaways, prizes, and a surprise visit by Lou Seal. Baer was also at the airport and addressed employees, fans, and media personnel.

Baer praises relationship with Alaska Airlines
Baer spoke of the excitement that came with seeing a “big, colorful giant fly” bearing the San Francisco Giants’ team colors and logo and expressed hope that Giants fans would feel the same way he did about the newly dedicated plane.

The Giants’ partnership with Alaska Airlines goes beyond themed planes, though, and that’s what Baer ultimately spoke about. He said, “Partnerships, like we have with Alaska Airlines, offer critical support of local community, youth and education programs like the Willie Mays Scholarship Fund.”

Willie Mays foundation receives $100,000
In a demonstration of Baer’s emphasis on the partnership’s importance, Alaska Airlines and the San Francisco Giants donated a $100,000 check to the Willie Mays Scholarship Fund.

This check will further fund scholarships for disadvantaged black youth throughout the San Francisco area. These scholarships will help ensure more youths can attend college and pursue their dreams both in academia and beyond.

There was great excitement around the dedication of the new Giants-themed plane, but Baer was right to highlight something even more important. The Giants and Alaska Airlines' donation will have an impact far beyond even where the plane will reach.
