Top luxury getaways in Peru

Right at the heart of Peru’s emerging luxury tourism market is the area around Cusco. It’s home to multiple boutique spas and accommodation, all offering something unique.

Peru isn’t just a backpacking destination in the Andes mountains of South America. It’s also fast becoming a luxury destination in its own right, thanks to a burgeoning tourist sector and a plethora of new and exciting hotels.

Right at the heart of Peru’s emerging luxury tourism market is the area around Cusco. It’s home to multiple boutique spas and accommodation, all offering something unique.

Hotel Tambo del Inka, Valle Sagredo
The Hotel Tambo del Inka is a luxury collection resort and spa run by the Marriott hotel group and is one of the top luxury hotels in Peru. Located in the Valle Sagrado – Peru’s Sacred Valley – it offers fine views of the countryside and feels a million miles away from the rest of civilization.

In the heart of the Incan Andes, it provides access to Machu Picchu and the Urubamba River. Inside you’ll find the Kallpa Spa, one of the best in the country, which has a thermal circuit, massage rooms for couples, a jacuzzi, and underwater beds for ultimate relaxation. Heated indoor and outdoor pools offer jet showers, whirlpools and various hydrotherapy treatments.

Monasterio, Cusco
The Monasterio has an entirely different character from Hotel Tambo del Inka, and is set up for anyone looking to go on a city break. It’s a timeless retreat in the heart of Cusco and a protected national monument. Being so central, it’s close to many of the city’s attractions and amenities.

On the inside, you’ll find a variety of restaurants, suites and boutique rooms, all clustered around a central courtyard that provides ample light. The accommodation is around 15 minutes from Cusco Airport, and right close to the Plaza de Armas, a local historical attraction that is well worth visiting.

JW Marriott El Convento, Cusco
Marriott describes the El Convento in Cusco as its finest hotel in the city, and it’s not hard to see why. The hotel features a plethora of boutique-style rooms and suites, all complete with various amenities. Beds are topped with fluffy pillows and high-quality linens for a luxurious stay. What’s more, the hotel pumps additional oxygen into rooms to help guests with acclimatization to the high altitudes.

Palacio del Inka, Cusco
The Palacio del Inka, another Luxury Collection Hotel in Cusco offers a similar level of service as the Hotel Tambo del Inka. Accommodation is built into a unique five-centuries-old mansion with spectacular views over downtown Cusco. The facility maintains many of the historical aspects of Peruvian culture while also offering world-class amenities and conveniences.

Palacio Nazarenas
Perhaps the priciest of all luxury hotels in Peru is the Palacio Nazarenas, a contemporary escape right in the heart of Cusco. Management describes the accommodation as “a blend of understated elegance and Peruvian flourishes” which turn each interior space into a “sanctuary.” Rooms come with oxygen-enriched air filled with Andean aromas that promise to revive and rejuvenate tired bodies. The décor is exceptional, and there are wonderful views from most rooms of the attractive internal courtyard. Studio, junior and one-bedroom suits are all available and come with underfloor heating.
