Aswan has different kinds of tourism; namely archaeological, Nile, curative, safari, fishing in lakes and many others. Aswan could be promoted as a separate destination in Egypt.

The Egyptian Tourist Authority Board of Directors, in its meeting last December chaired by Tourism Minister Dr. Mamdouh EI-Beltagui, has adopted a decision for pushing forward the efforts in this regard.

In the meantime, the Egyptian Tourist Authority has prepared three projects, one of which is already being currently implemented by contractors.

A seminar, entitled Prospect of Tourism Development in Aswan has recently been held in Aswan, which was attended by Dr. Beltagui, Aswan Governor Samir Youssef, Egyptian Tourism Development Authority Executive Department Chairman Magdi Qebeissi and a number of investors, during which the three projects were discussed.

During the seminar, Dr. Beltagui stressed the importance of turning Aswan into a separate integrated tourist destination.

Eng. Qebeissi reviewed the three projects and said that the Ministry of Tourism would supply the needed funds for the first project, estimated at L.E. 4.5 million, to be carried out on three phases for developing the ancient area in Aswan.

In the meantime, the second project would focus on the development of Toshka area through the establishment of three tourist centers, which would provide more than 29,550 job opportunities, adding 9,850 new hotel rooms. Costs of the second project would hit L.E. 2 billion, to be funded by investors.

As for the third project, it aims mainly at developing the Nile anchors and establishing new ones, to serve the floating hotels in Aswan. The project will cost L.E. 17 million and be carried out in two years. A private sector company will carry out the project.

During the seminar, Dr. Beltagui discussed various issues with investors including means of encouraging tourists to spend more time in Aswan.
