Alaska Airlines begins nonstop service between San Diego and Boston

During the past year alone, Alaska Airlines has launched service from San Diego to Orlando, Fla., as well as to Fresno, Monterey and Santa Rosa, Calif., in addition to Boston and Kauai.

SEATTLE – Alaska Airlines launches nonstop flights today between San Diego and Boston—the sixth new city the carrier has begun serving from San Diego in the past year.

“We’re delighted to announce convenient nonstop service between San Diego and historical and bustling ‘Beantown,’ a route enjoyed equally by vacationers and business travelers,” said Joe Sprague, Alaska Airlines’ vice president of marketing. “With the addition of Boston, as well as our previously announced service to Lihue, Kauai, beginning June 7, Alaska Airlines will offer 171 flights a week from San Diego to a total of 12 cities stretching from Hawaii to Mexico to the East Coast.”

During the past year alone, Alaska Airlines has launched service from San Diego to Orlando, Fla., as well as to Fresno, Monterey and Santa Rosa, Calif., in addition to Boston and Kauai.

“This expansion of service by Alaska Airlines is good news for Boston Logan International Airport and the millions of passengers who choose to fly from New England’s gateway,” said Ed Freni, director of aviation for the Massachusetts Port Authority, which owns and operates Logan. “Alaska Airlines is a key player in the transcontinental market and this new service to San Diego will give passengers even more choices. Alaska’s success here is indicative of the strong market in Boston for business and leisure travel.”

The flights will be operated using Boeing 737 Next Generation aircraft. All flights will offer Alaska’s Northern Bites meal service, which provides passengers in the main cabin with a hot meal for $6 or a cheese and fruit platter for $7. The flights also offer Alaska’s inflight entertainment system, a handheld video-on-demand device featuring more than 70 hit movies, along with television programs and other entertainment. The inflight entertainment players are complimentary in first class and available for $10 in the main cabin.
