American Airlines launches new service between Dallas/Fort Worth And Hong Kong and Shanghai

The new service provides one-stop connections at DFW for customers traveling between Asia and North, Central and South America.

FORT WORTH, Texas – American Airlines launches daily nonstop service between Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport (DFW) and Hong Kong International Airport (HKG) and Shanghai Pudong International Airport (PVG) – reinforcing American’s commitment to expanding and strengthening its presence in the Asia-Pacific region. Through American’s extensive network from Dallas/Fort Worth, customers traveling from Hong Kong and Shanghai now have one-stop access to nearly 200 additional destinations.

These new routes enhance our expanding global network and further establish American’s position as the preferred carrier for one-stop connections between Asia and major business and leisure destinations in North, Central and South America.”

These new routes represent a tremendous opportunity for significant economic impact for our region,” said Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings. “DFW Airport, Mayor Price and I have been advocating for more direct access to Asia, knowing the trans-Pacific market is critical for business across the state. Nonstop service has the potential to launch Dallas and Fort Worth into a new dimension of international business and cultural engagement.”
Today marks one of the biggest milestones in the 40-year history of DFW Airport and our region, as we begin a new era of service connecting Dallas/Fort Worth to Hong Kong and Shanghai,” said Sean Donohue, CEO of  DFW International Airport. “These direct routes connect two of the world’s most significant economic centers to DFW and will open new avenues of trade and tourism for our region. Additionally, we expect our Asian visitors to quickly discover that DFW Airport is the preferred point of entry for visitors into the United States and Latin America.”
The new daily service between DFW and Hong Kong will be operated with a Boeing 777-300ER, marking the first time American will deploy its flagship aircraft to Asia. The aircraft features a three-class cabin configuration with fully lie-flat seats in First and Business Class, international Wi-Fi, and more customer and cargo capacity than any other aircraft currently in American’s fleet.
The new service between DFW and Shanghai will be operated with a Boeing 777-200ER aircraft. American will be retrofitting its entire fleet of 777-200ERs to include fully lie-flat Business Class seats, each with aisle access; new seats in the Main Cabin; in-seat entertainment; and international Wi-Fi capability. The new fully lie-flat Business Class seats on American’s 777-200ERs will afford travelers among the largest living space of any 777 Business Class seat offered by any U.S. carrier.

These new routes are operated as part of American’s joint business agreement with fellow oneworld® alliance member Japan Airlines. Through oneworld member airlines and their affiliates, American’s customers have access to nearly 150 destinations within Asia.
The service to Hong Kong will add a new destination to American’s international network, and the service to Shanghai complements American’s existing service from Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) and Chicago O’Hare International Airport (ORD).
