The British couple injured in the Sultan Park incident left the Maldives for UK on a chartered air ambulance for further treatment at home. The evacuation was organised jointly by the Government of Maldives, and industry well-wishers. The British High Commission assisted in the evacuation.



They left the Maldives at 07:18am (local hour) yesterday (3 October). The couple is expected to receive treatment at a specialist burns unit in a hospital in Manchester.



The couple was seen off at the airport by Dr. Mahamood Shougee, Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation, Mr. Qasim Ibrahim, industry representative and Minister of Finance and Treasury, and Mr. Abdul Hameed Zakariyya, the Deputy Minister of Tourism and Civil Aviation. Before leaving the Maldives, Mr & Mrs Donelan assured bravely that they would return to the Maldives after recovery.
