Hong Kong’s only international travel expo open next week

The 23rd International Travel Expo this year will be held from June 11 to 14 at the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Centre, and officiating its opening on June 11 is our Guest of Honor, Ms. Rita Lau, JP, Secretary for Commerce & Economic Development Bureau of the Hong Kong SAR Government.  Mr Man Hongwei, Director General of China National Tourism Administration and Mr Zhuo Qinrui, Vice Mayor of The ShenZhen Municipal People’s Government, and other officials, foreign dignitaries such as MinIster, Ambassador, etc will also be invited to be guests on stage.

Despite financial crisis and swine flu, ITE & ITE MICE this year maintains its scale largely as a result of expansion by past exhibitors especially some official pavilions, and participations by new exhibitors. In all, some 600 exhibitors from nearly 50 countries and regions will exhibit this year, and will occupy a total of 16000 square meters, a small increase of 15000sqm last year.

The organizer expresses warm welcome to Japan as the Partnerland Asia this year! This is the very first time that ITE has ever named a Partnerland. The Japan pavilion, already number two by scale last year, increases by nearly 40%.

New exhibitors this year come from different continents. Those with national pavilions include Azerbaijani, Fiji, Greece and Indonesia, while Bhutan, Canada, Chile and Syria have only individual exhibitors. Provincial tourism authorities, such as Jakarta of Indonesia, Kyushu of Japan, and Sabah of Malaysia, take their own collective stands outside their respectively national pavilions. Launched for the first time this year is the Health & Medical pavilion which has an official Taiwan pavilion and exhibitors from some other countries.

There are seminars by veteran travelers and celebrities to be held during 11 – 12 Jun
– 2009 Asia Outbound Forum – Impact & Strategy in financial crisis
– How to market Cruise Holidays by Mr Kent Chung (Travelchung)
– Guangdong Outbound Market Seminar
– Publisher of the Chinese National Geography, who led China’s scientific expedition to the North Pole in 1995, will share his views and photos on great beauty of nature.

The travel expo this year will be held at Halls 1A to 1E of the Hong Kong Convention & Exhibition Center, which are all in the same floor, with registration and ticketing at the Expo Drive Entrance of the Center. To better prepare for swine flu, the organizer will work with the venue to step up cleaning and set up medical help desk.

The travel expo opens only to trade and corporations on June 11 and 12. Jun 13 – 14 open to public and admission prices this year have been reduced by half to HK$15 for Saturday and HK$10 for Sunday, to boost market sentiment.

Organized by TKS Exhibition Services Ltd, ITE & ITE MICE are supported by the China National Tourism Administration (CNTA), Hong Kong Tourism Board (HKTB), Travel Industry Council of Hong Kong (TIC), and the Macau Government Tourist Office (MGTO). Cathay Pacific Airways and Dragonair are the Official Air, and MTR the Official Rail.
