Participants gearing up for a busy week at the TFWA Asia Pacific travel retail conference and exhibition (18-21 May, Singapore)will have the chance to meet up informally with contacts old and new at superb venues thanks to Tax Free World Association, their local Singapore partners and some generous sponsors.

TFWA has organised a varied programme of sports activities on Monday 17 May that are free to visitors and exhibitors and are sure to be fun.

What nicer way could there be to pass a few hours before the heat of the day than a gentle game of Cricket against the verdant backdrop of the Singapore Cricket Club? Players of all ages and abilities are welcome to take part; the game is played with a soft ball and the rules are explained on the day. The tournament starts at 8.30am and is followed by a traditional chicken curry lunch at the 200-year old Club.

TFWA is delighted to announce that Zilli and The Moodie Report will this year sponsor the annual Golf tournament at the beautiful and well-maintained course of the Orchid Country Club. First tee-off will be at 7.45am. Zilli is one of the premier French brands of luxury men`s sports, day and eveningwear and accessories, with a reputation for style and creativity built up over the past 40-years.

The Moodie Report is a web and e-mail driven travel retail intelligence service which, since its launch less than two years ago, has earned wide respect within the industry. The Moodie Report also issues a quarterly print magazine. Its flagship e-Newsletter reaches over 5,600 readers per week.

The `hole in one` competition always adds to the excitement of this prestigious golf tournament, and this year a cash prize of US$50,000 is offered to the lucky winner! Sets of men`s and ladies` Callaway golf clubs and bags are being offered to the winners of the nearest the pin challenge!

Taichi is one of China`s most enigmatic and enduring customs which is becoming increasingly popular. TFWA is pleased to offer delegates the opportunity to participate in this ancient art form under the supervision of Taichi masters, surrounded by the lush green scenery of the Singapore zoological gardens. A leisurely picnic breakfast will follow.

TFWA will this year launch a special Leisure Tour for those people who don`t usually get the opportunity to visit the city of Singapore properly during the TFWA Asia Pacific show. The tour will allow delegates to experience the vibrant pulse of Singapore`s culture and history, passing through Chinatown, Little India, Arab Street and the Singapore River. The tour lasts from 9am to 12.30 pm on Monday 17th and costs S$36 per person.

Social standing

Pre-registered delegates are invited to attend two glittering social events during the show. The duty free and travel retail world will assemble for the TFWA Asia Pacific Welcoming Cocktail on Monday 17 May at 7.30pm at an exciting new venue, the Asian Civilisations Museum, Indochine Restaurant and Bar Opiume. The French colonial period in the Orient will be recreated at this world class venue which offers one of the finest views of the Singapore river.

Entrance to this exclusive event will be by invitation only; invitations may be purchased from the cashier`s desk on site at US$120 per person.

The highlight of the TFWA Asia Pacific show will undoubtedly be the Singapore Swing party on Thursday 20 May at the Divine Society. The elegance of the 1920`s will be recreated at this dazzling soiree which will welcome guests to a Cotton

Club theme, an era of tap and swing, boa clad ladies and Mafia bosses. The evening will include exciting entertainment combined with gaming in Mafia style, where the tension is tangible and the stakes are high! Lots of prizes in store for the lucky winners! Swinging starts at 7.30pm.

Participants of non-delegate status may purchase any remaining Singapore Swing tickets from the cashier`s desk on site at US$175 per person.

A shuttle service will be provided from all major official hotels to both these events.

Erik Juul-Mortensen, TFWA President: The true value of an international trade show lies not just in the range of exhibited goods on offer, however impressive that range may be, but in the business contacts made during the show. What could be better than to convert those contacts into friends by having a drink together, enjoying a game of cricket or a round of golf. TFWA Asia Pacific in Singapore is a superb venue to make lasting business – and personal – relationships.
