Alice Springs to host Australian Tourism Awards

The Northern Territory will be under the spotlight in February when Alice Springs hosts the prestigious annual Australian Tourism Awards

The Northern Territory will be under the spotlight in February when Alice Springs hosts the prestigious annual Australian Tourism Awards.



To be held at the Alice Springs Convention Centre on Friday 11 February, the awards are expected to attract over 750 guests representing the best of the best from Australia’s tourism industry.



This is the first time the Northern Territory has hosted the event, which is being managed by the Chamber of Commerce NT in conjunction with a committee of NT tourism industry professionals.



Chamber of Commerce NT President, Rick Paul, says the event offers a marvellous opportunity for interstate finalist to see and experience the magic of one of Australia’s most famous outback towns.



“ Finalist for the Australian Awards are the category winners from each state and territory tourism awards held during 2004,” Mr Paul said.

“ All finalists have undergone a further round of assessment by a national panel of judges to find the overall winners in 27 separate categories, that will be announced on the night.



“ In the current highly competitive tourism industry environment the awards also offer individual businesses the opportunity to gain national recognition and to benefit from being selected as a finalist or an overall winner,”
Mr Paul said.



Those wanting to attend the Awards are urged to book early to avoid disappointment and to assist, Territory Discoveries, who operate the NT Holidays Call Centre in Alice Springs, are offering special accommodation rates and pre and post touring packages.



Platinum sponsors for the Australian Tourism Awards include the NT Tourist Commission, Tourism Australia and Sensis who have secured naming rights for the Alice Springs event.



Tickets are on sale at $180 pp for the gala event on 11 February, which is a Black Tie occasion that includes a four-course dinner and supper club. Bookings are essential and ticket numbers are strictly limited.
