Delegates at the Caribbean Tourism Organization’s (CTO) 29th Annual Caribbean Tourism Conference (CTC-29) will get insights about the state of the Caribbean airline industry from Peter Davies, chief executive officer of BWIA West Indies Airways Limited, at the Closing Luncheon Reception scheduled for Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006. Mr. Davies will also address the changes that are taking place at BWIA as it transitions into the new regional air carrier – Caribbean Airlines – which will be launched on Jan. 1, 2007.

“We are honored to have Mr. Davies deliver the closing comments at CTC-29,” said Hugh Riley, CTO’s director of marketing for the Americas. “This is the first time he will be addressing the CTO members in this capacity and we are looking forward to hearing his vision for the Caribbean aviation industry and the role the new airline will play in the future tourism development of the entire region,” Riley noted.

Mr. Davies was appointed to the position of CEO of BWIA West Indies Airways Ltd. in March 2006 and will oversee the shutdown of BWIA by Dec. 31, 2006 and the start of Caribbean Airlines. Mr. Davies brings 30 years of operational experience in the airline and transport industry throughout Europe, Australia and the United States.

Prior to joining BWIA, Mr. Davies was the CEO of SN Brussels Airlines where he engineered the rapid recovery and secured profitability over three consecutive years of the airlines four year history.

Mr. Davies also spent 14 years at DHL where he served as managing director of the UK operations than regional director for Europe and finally as chief operating office responsible for The Americas including the Caribbean.

CTC-29 is taking place Oct. 22-25, 2006 at the Westin and Sheraton Grand Bahama Island Our Lucaya Resort on Grand Bahama Island, in The Bahamas. CTC-29 will provide the opportunity for delegates to participate in the evolution and development of the new “Caribbean” brand, and will also demonstrate how they can benefit from it in ways, which up until now never seemed possible.
