Cruise industry meets in Malaga

The 6th Cruise Excellence Awards was attended bynearly 200 professionals from the Spanish and European industry as well as leading politicians.

“Museo Picasso Malaga” hosted on 21st February the 6th Cruise Excellence Awards. The event was attended bynearly 200 professionals from the Spanish and European industry as well as leading politicians. The Cruise Excellence Awards are organized every year by Cruises News Media Group.

Malaga Port Authority received for the third consecutive year, the Award “Best Mediterranean Spanish port.” Jose Sanchez Maldonado, President of the Port Authority of Malaga, collected the award from Jose Ortega Llorca, President of The National Ports Authority.

Notably is that The National Ports Authority in the figure of its President has attended the Cruise Excellence Awards gala for the first time which underlines the support and interest being shown by Jose Llorca Ortega in the cruise
industry.

Special recognitions
As in every edition, Cruises News Media Group presented its plaques of recognition. This time Disney Cruise Line was recognized for its “Commitment for the Spanish market”, returning to Barcelona as a homeport with different itineraries. Meanwhile, Silversea was recognized for “Luxury in the Spanish market” for the luxury product concept and the undisputed reputation that this company has created in this segment in the Spanish market.

The Andres Mira Domenech Award
Cruises News Media Group presented for the first time at the gala the Andres Mira Domenech Award. The jury adjudged Sebastian Camps, Malagaport former Director, the worthy inaugural winner. Of particular note is his contribution to the Spanish cruise industry in general. He has also been responsible for placing a Spanish port, Malaga, in the position it now occupies in Spain and Europe. In addition he has been the most influential person in bringing the Cruise Excellence Awards ceremony to Malaga where it has now been held for the last five years.
