A person cannot survive on culture alone! The Czech Republic offers visitors an extraordinarily rich cultural programme, but sports fans are not forgotten either. There is definitely something to suit everyone in the following list of events.

Ecce Homo 2005

The European hill-climb championship and other interesting races will take place in Sternberk 4th and 5th of June 2005. The whole event will be an even greater celebration than usual as the Ecce Homo racetrack in Sternberk will celebrate its centenary, and the organizers have been preparing for this important date for a long time. Apart from the usual European Championship programme there will also be a programme of events for spectators and drivers featuring many legendary names from the world of racing. Miroslav Adamek is already preparing his NSU TT car for the starting line and Simone Faggioli, holder of the CN group course record will also be there. A great battle between A. Vilarino and L. Regal is also anticipated. Mauro Nesti, Dieter Kern and Walter Leitgeb have also promised to take part.

11th Golden Czech Trophy Marienbad 2005

The Golden Czech Trophy Marienbad is one of the most beautiful running courses in the Czech Republic. The event takes place on an attractive circuit (1077 m) around the protected historical spa town of Marienbad. This year it will take place 11th June 2005 for the 11th time. The race starts at 1 pm and before that spectators can look forward to a free programme of events lasting the whole morning. People of any age and ability can take part in these events. The highlight of the day is naturally the international 10 km men`s elite run. The course runs through the colonnade, Skalnik Park in full blossom and around the Singing Fountain. Previous years have seen runners from 12 countries including 3 African states take part as well as top runners from the Czech Republic.

Barum Rallye Zlin

For the first time in the Czech Republic motor sport fans will get the chance to see a world championship candidate race, the 35th Barum Rallye Zlin. The race in Zlin will again be one of nine, which make up the European Championship Series, and will take place from 18th – 21st August 2005. Rallye driving is an extremely popular sport in the Czech Republic, proof of which are the 200,000 enthusiastic fans who gather at the track every year. The rallye centred around the Moravian town of Zlin has been part of the European Championship Series since 1983, and since 2002 it has been one of Europe`s top rallyes. Last year 125 teams from 10 countries in Europe took part. The start and finishing line is located in the regional administrative capital Zlin. The race itself takes place in two stages from 19th – 21st August and this year the organizers have included a time trial in the streets of the town itself. The stages include 260 km of time trials over various tarmac surfaces.

Czech Republic Grand Prix 2005

The riders are divided into groups in which they ride three times with the two best times being counted towards the group classification. In each of the next rounds the riders start from zero again. Only the final race is a winner takes all affair. This year the race will be held for the 57th time and is the oldest race of its kind in the world. As in previous years Saturday`s programme includes the 31st Junior Golden Ribbon Race.
