British Airways will increase its fuel surcharge on flights from Thursday, October 14, onwards as a result of the continuing increase in the price of oil.

The longhaul fuel surcharge on all UK bookings will increase from £6 to £10 per sector (£20 return trip).

The shorthaul fuel surcharge on all UK bookings will increase from £2.50 to £4 per sector (£8 a return trip).

Martin George, British Airways’ commercial director, said: “This is not a decision we have taken lightly but, as other airlines are finding, the continuing rise in fuel prices sadly makes these increases inevitable.”

For flights booked in Europe (not including the UK) the surcharge will be EUR 6 per shorthaul sector (EUR12 a return trip) and EUR14 per longhaul sector (EUR 28 a return trip).

For flights booked outside of Europe the surcharge will be $7 per shorthaul sector ($14 a return trip) and $17 per longhaul sector ($34 per return trip).

The additional fuel surcharge only applies to tickets issued from Thursday, October 14.
