Bulgaria: Revenues from tourism will increase

The expected increase in tourists in Bulgarian winter resorts this season is 5-7%, Deputy Minister of Economy Dimitar Hadjinikolov announced in Varna. He officially opened the 24th edition of Tourism and Leisure Time Fair. The revenues from tourism this year will amount to USD 2 billion, Hadjinikolov stated. 80% of them come from sea tourism. The Deputy Minister also announced that winter hotels are 70% busy. From January to October this year tourists were 15,84% more in Bulgaria in comparison to the same period last year. Revenues from tourism account to EUR 793.3 million. About 60% of the tourists come from EU member states. By December the number of tourists will probably reach 4 million, Hadjinikolov forecast.

For period January-August 2004 the revenues from international tourism amount to EUR 1.303 billiard, which is 22.2% more than the same period last year, preliminary data of the Ministry of Economy show.



Net revenues (positive balance) for the first eight months of 2004 from international tourism account to EUR 793.3 million.

In recent years the number of holidaymakers to the southern Black sea coastline will increase since the base is bigger there, the Deputy Minister observed. According to him, the chance for the development of the northern Black sea coastline is the combination of sea, balneological and ecotourism.



The costs of Bulgarian citizens for trips abroad for the first eight months of the year amount to EUR 509.5 million which is 21.5% more than the same period last year, Ministry of Economy stated.
