Crisis requires better management from travel sector

The latest volcanic ash emergency is affecting the travel plans of thousands of UK tourists and travellers – and award-winning car hire comparator Carrentals.co.uk is challenging the travel sector to address the problem better than it did last year. In 2010 many thousands of people were let down by poor advice, policies and processes, something the website wants providers to address this year.

Gareth Robinson, Carrentals.co.uk Managing Director, comments: “There were thousands and thousands of people left stranded last year by poor information about the volcanic ash cloud – something we want companies to put right this year. Whether you are an airline or a hotel chain, a car hire supplier or an insurance company, you owe it to customers to give them the best advice and help possible in such an emergency."

Gareth Robinson went on, "2010’s volcanic ash cloud was pretty much a disaster for many travel companies and they didn’t do their reputations any good at all with poor communications and advice to people. We want to help ensure that doesn’t happen this time around and as such we are asking all fellow travel sector companies to take responsibility and ensure that people are not left high and dry by poor communication, process and lack of knowledge on the parts of staff.”

Retail and consumer magazine Which? has also been vocal in its criticism of the travel sector’s handling of last year’s volcanic ash cloud crisis, in terms of how many people remain out of pocket even still. The magazine’s article reported that many travellers have still not received deserved compensation for issues and cancellations encountered in the 2010 volcanic ash emergency.

Carrentals.co.uk is offering site users up to the minute news and advice for its hire car customers through the website’s help section.

Carrentals.co.uk is the leading car hire comparison site, comparing deals from up to 50 rental companies, including Alamo, Auto Europe, Budget, Holiday Autos and Sixt, in over 15,000 locations worldwide.
