Eastern Airways flying the flag for Britain with patriotic livery

UK regional airline Eastern Airways will be flying the flag for Britain this summer, as one of its aircraft has been unveiled in patriotic Union Jack livery. The one-off ‘Best of British’ livery – in vibrant red, white and blue – has been introduced to commemorate Her Majesty The Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

The new livery can be seen on the fuselage and tailfin of a 37-seater Embraer 135 jet with Rolls Royce engines, which flies around Eastern Airways’ UK and European network.

The UK’s second largest regional airline was established in 1997 and initially developed its network around the North Sea offshore industry with services between the east coast of England and Aberdeen.

The airline was recently named Best Passenger Charter Airline and now operates more flights to and from Aberdeen than any other carrier with a fleet of 30 aircraft flying to 21 airports in the UK, Norway, Belgium and France.

Kay Ryan, Eastern Airways’ commercial director, said the new livery was an eye-catching way to mark the milestone.

“The Best of British livery will be seen all over our scheduled and charter network over the coming months, celebrating both our heritage and the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, as we join in with our passengers and the rest of the country to mark this great occasion.

“This year is all about celebrating everything that makes Britain great and I’m sure our passengers will be delighted to travel with us on this special aircraft, which carries the Union Jack tens of thousands of miles over the next few months.”

In 2006, Eastern Airways became the first airline to support a regional brand identity by changing the livery on one of its aircraft to the Aberdeen City and Shire branding, which was developed by Aberdeen City and Shire Economic Future (ACSEF) to promote the North-east of Scotland. Shortly after this, a North East England liveried aircraft was also introduced promoting the region.
