Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, has announced it will offer an additional weekly flight between Abu Dhabi and Geneva and three non-stop flights per week between the UAE capital and Munich.

H.E. Dr. Sheikh Ahmed Bin Saif Al Nahyan, Chairman of Civil Aviation Department in Abu Dhabi and Chairman of Etihad Airways said the airline is meeting the needs of its guests who prefer direct connections to Europe by offering three times weekly non-stop flights to Geneva and Munich rather than its three times per week route to Geneva with an ongoing connection to Munich.

We are pleased to improve this needed air connection, as our service is significantly enhancing the link the UAE has with Switzerland and Germany, two of the major investment, conference and commercial centers of central Europe. The additional direct air connection will facilitate even more opportunities for business and tourism.

Switzerland and the UAE enjoy a substantial trading relationship, particularly in fine jewelry, watches, machinery and precious metals.

Germany is also one of the most important trading partners of the UAE, and the most important of the emirate of Abu Dhabi. Additionally, the Middle East, and particularly the Gulf region, is one of the fastest growing markets for German leisure travel.

This latest news from Etihad reinforces the airline`s commitment to offer its guests the most convenient travel options. It also is in keeping with the airline`s expansion plans, which include not only increasing frequency of current routes, but also adding additional destinations to Europe, Asia and North America. Currently Etihad flies to 16 destinations with four of those being to Europe – London (Gatwick and Heathrow), Munich and Geneva.

In 2004 Etihad made a substantial purchase of new Airbus and Boeing passenger planes, which will enable the airline to further expand its service between Europe and the UAE.
