AIS AGORA, EUROCONTROL’s response to the need to improve communication and coordination amongst aeronautical information professionals, has reached its 5th anniversary. The application now has 2300 subscribers from 104 states.

AIS AGORA – the web-based Aeronautical Information Forum was set up under the AIS AHEAD programme in October 2001 in response to the needs of the aeronautical information stakeholders to improve communication and coordination amongst the individual actors along the aeronautical data supply chain. The basic notion was “Voicing Problems – Sharing Solutions”. Aimed at aeronautical information users – Aeronautical Information Services (AIS), airlines, aircraft operators, air traffic services providers, aerodrome authorities, data originators, data providers and other airspace users it covers information such as planned amendments, copies of late publications, inquiries and answers on published aeronautical information.

With information and links to all AIS websites, AIS points of contact and other relevant aeronautical information. AIS AGORA serves as a communication portal for the whole Aeronautical Information Community, not only in Europe, but world-wide. Subscribers represent 345 different Airlines, AIS from 89 states, 181 aeronautical information industry companies, Military organisations from 21 states, and international bodies such as ICAO, IATA, IAOPA, NATO, and the European Commission. Over the past 5 years there have been almost 10000 postings of information on the AIS AGORA site.

“In its short life, AIS AGORA has made a major contribution to improving safety and efficiency in Europe,” said Alexandre Petrovsky, AIS AGORGA Project Manager. “Though originally conceived as a short-term project, the tremendously positive feedback that we have had from users means that AIS AGORA is certainly here to stay. It has been a classic example of the use of the web to provide a new solution where none existed before. The success of this portal has exceeded all expectations. AIS is now, truly, a global communications tool.”
