According to a survey that was conducted for Finland Convention Bureau by Taloustutkimus Oy, a market research company, around 1.3 million persons attended international and domestic meetings in Finland in January-June. About 94% attended domestic meetings and 6% international meetings. A total of 26,800 domestic meetings and 1,600 international meetings were arranged.
The survey will continue to collect information on meetings and participants in the latter half of the year. Responses have been requested from 567 commercial conference facilities all over Finland. These account for 44% of Finland`s available commercial conference capacity. Respondents have been asked to send monthly reports to Taloustutkimus Oy on the number of meetings held and the number of participants attending them.
The survey does not include meetings held at non-commercial facilities such as universities or in private companies` premises.
- Helsinki, Turku and Oulu top cities for international meetings
- Helsinki had the largest number of participants in international meetings, followed by Turku and Oulu.
- Uusimaa (which includes Helsinki), Southwest Finland (which includes Turku) and North Ostrobothnia (which includes Oulu) were the top regions in the survey for participants in international meetings.
The percentages shown in statistics regarding participants and meetings are based solely on the figures reported by respondents to Taloustutkimus Oy.
International meetings had an average size of 47 participants and domestic meetings 46 participants. The average length was 1.5 days for international meetings and 1.2 days for domestic meetings.
