Around 1.3 million Scandinavian visitors travelled to Greece last year and their numbers are expected to further increase.
Haralambos Lianeris, the director of the Hellenic Tourism Organisation`s (EOT) Stockholm branch, said the predictions for 2000 are for record numbers this year in the Scandinavian market.
Greece`s stand at TUR will cover 400 square metres, the largest it has ever set up at the fair. Especial emphasis will be given to the Macedonia region and the islands of the northern Aegean in order to generate interest among Scandinavians in these areas.
Mykonos will have its own stand as will Superfast Ferries, which will promote its new Baltic routes.
Lianeris said growing numbers of Scandinavians are discovering what Greece has to offer – sun, sea, adventure and culture. Island-hopping is extremely popular as Scandinavians like to see various places. Additionally, they have cultivated a taste for Greek cuisine and wine.
